A dedicated thread on all things about our once bustling city that is now overrun with homeless people turning people away from the city as a place to shop. Who goes there anymore to shop? Me? Never! Back in the 70's, 80's possibly even 90's, regularly.

Only time I go into the city is to go to the Battye library.  Even so, I get off the train and walk over, but get approached for money every time in that short distance.  Some of these people try to tug on your heartstrings - with a smoke in hand.!!! Other than that, I can’t be bothered going there.

Mate...unfortunately it's the same right across the globe. Over the last few years when we were allowed to travel I noticed the same in places like Vancouver, Hawaii, Madrid, Moscow and so on. For some it's by choice but in the main it's due to poor life decisions tipping people onto the streets. The EU in particular is suffering due to the rush of migrants from Africa heading north thanks to the likes of Angela Merkel et al creating a pull environment. Here it's very noticeable as you say in Perth and Fremantle. Governments of both persuasions tend to sweep it under the carpet by moving people on so they become someone else's problem rather than addressing the issue with cheap community housing or similar. I also don't go into the city any more as it's just not worth the hassle.

I reckon they would be dealt with in Singapore
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

They don't help themselves BC with exorbitant parking prices. Not sure if Basil has addressed this.

Was just thinking this yesterday.

On top of walking through some of the older arcades, like Carillon/Plaza, and Piccadilly that are now full of empty bordered up shops, I went for a walk through the newer 140 William St Arcade, it once was full of fine eateries, Brotweist German Bar, East Village New York style bistro, Jamies Italian, and a few others, they have all folded and the shops bordered up.

But then I walked past the Town Hall to hear the cries of abuse from across tat Macdonalds some dero fighting with the now permanent security guard at the door, dodged the piss stink under the town hall and the blokes with shopping trolleys full of crap talking about cheap drugs.

Absolutely shocking the way the place is stuffed.

New York and bigger US cities probably the worst I have seen, but I tell you what Paris is an utter crap hole, closely followed as you say by the EU cities Spanish and Italian cities - the uncehcked sub saharan african illegal migration is utterly wrecking the place.

Didnt notice it as bad even in South America.

I went in to the city Saturday after the PSA game to get some boots and obviously it was pissing down.

I said to my work colleague Monday with it being so quiet you could see all the homeless everywhere that would normally by hidden by the bustling crowds. I hadn't been to the city in years and didn't realise how bad it was now.

I work in the city and unless its unaviodable I will stay away from the malls due to the undesirables there every day.

And this time of the year with it getting dark early and being wet, its not much fun walking to Perth train station after dark, let me tell you
Save a tree and eat a beaver
