Just goes to show you where the footy going public are in Perth mindset wise, they grab tickets for what is essentially a melbourne contest with no local team playing - meanwhile the WAFL struggles to fill a 1/4 of the stadium for a Grand Final.

AFL rules in this town and theres no going back.

Unfortunately Baz thats what the generation of today have been bought up with. Most young kids dont really follow a WAFL team and most would align more with their community club than the WAFL because thats where most go to watch footy most weeks

Thats true mate - but from my experience at Optus there are also a huge number of over 50s that love AFL and now have no interest in WAFL,

That would be the "Chardonnay Supporters" west coast is well knows for. Most of those probably would never had known about footy until the Eagles joined the comp 30 odd years ago

Very much Fremantle supporters also. I know a heap of Dockers supporters who have zero interest in WAFL now. My parents in law are ex East Fremantle supporters who would barely remember the Sharks colours now.

Yes, there are a heaps of older ex wafl followers that are 100% AFL, the chardonnay stuff is a total myth.

Fuck sake, seems like the Eagles are responsible for everything except for Covid, tho some of you will find a way!!!  Why is the WAFL dying?  MEDIA.  Our kids get very little exposure to state footy.  Since the Eagle’s inception, the media has basically dropped coverage of our local comp to page 98 behind the Big Brother coverage.  I lived half my life in the territory and north of WA and I can tell you that reading about WAFL games or watching them was nigh on impossible.  The Eagles are just another team playing in the VFL’s AFL, not their fault our media has dropped anything West Australian.
AND, I don’t drink Chardonnay, hate it.
Go Sharkies!!!!
Tonight’s game is another reason for the fall of the WAFL and unless the Sharks find another gear, it could happen again Monday.

If you are talking about the live broadcast of the WAFL game from Lathlain, yep you are right that was a shocking add for WAFL and pretty much would of confirmed in any border line followers belief that it was a third rate comp. It didnt help that the ground presented as near empty in the background, in a ground that is largely fences on one side.

The derby Monday will be going live on 7 as well on a AFL free day - lets hope its a contest.
