Was interesting listening to Peter Sumich on 91.3 this morning.
He as a proud West Aussie couldnt believe the WAFC would take the advice of the afl to play essentially prospective draftees instead of putting out our best WA WAFL team, as you should for a State Game.
He also said he chatted to his former SF teammate Stephen Rowe who was the SA Chairman Of Selectors for this game and he told him the afl also directed the SANFL to do the same but SA like the proud footy state they are told the afl to get farked and they would play their best available side not those with potential for the pathetic mid season draft raid!

....And apparently the date & time of the "exhibition" match being orchestrated from this end, so the story goes.
I was under the impression, the Home team (in this case the SANFL) had that nomination? Evidently not.
Given all the prior posters comments on the subject, obviously nothing has changed at hq.

There won't be a change until the voting power of the Eagles and Dockers is reduced to a combined 15% or even better 10%.

Does anyone know actually how many from the WA State team that played SA on the weekend have nominated for the mid season draft next month? Lot of talk the WA selection criteria was heavily mid season draft influenced. Can't imagine senior boys in Cam Eardley, Leigh Kitchen, De La, Gault and Bolton  putting their hands up....I guess Parker and  Schoenfeld would after their recent delisting.....surely Leggett shouldn't of been dropped then....isn't he on the list of 300 nominations?....

John Townsend once again nailed it in his Wednesday WAFL column, contrasting the half cocked approach to this match by the WAFC with the full commitment shown by the SANFL to their state team. SA even went as far as inviting past state players to their training sessions to talk to the players about the tradition and importance of State footy.
For WA it was just an awkward stand offish meeting with the new coach and teammates a week before the game. Not picking people who had proven records in state footy, rather stacking the team with young AFL draft prospects. The result was inevitable. Not blaming Valentine or the players, they did their best given the lack of support given to them by the WAFC.

Mike have a listen to Peter Sumich's piece on 91.3 on Monday morning to get an idea of the massive difference in preparation SA had to our WAFC's Potential Mid Season Draftees side.
An SA squad had trained together for nearly 7 weeks (as opposed to WA's 6 days), had a coach in place from the end of last year as opposed to one pulling out 10 days beforehand, we also had a week off playing and training in WAFL club land thanks to Emperor McGowan no such problem in SA.....it goes on and on.
But the kicker was Suma was last week chatting to his former SF teammate Stephen Rowe who was the SA Chairman Of Selectors for this game and he told him the afl had approached SA about playing younger potential draftees as opposed to their best in form SA side and SA pretty much told them to F...off!
Therein lies the difference between the SANFL & WAFC (or should that be more appropriately aflwa)!!!

...And I wonder if mr and mrs average will care about the 'state team' and the selection process? Speaking with a few people during the week clearly shows that some still didn't realise the match was held. Which is odd in itself.
Surely some important questions need answering I would have thought? Seems this has been swept under the carpet too!
