This will annoy some but ...... .

When are (Australians) going to stop thinking we are English, we are no longer part of the pinks bits on a 1960's map we are our own multicultural country.

Who gives a fundamental abt what the queens children are doing or being prats abt but our media seems to think we have to be told all abt it, who gives a ..... abt some kid that disappeared from a spanish mandurah 20 years ago and the list goes on!

My old man was a scot and he hated the fact that we still paid homage to england and my mother was a australian not english but AUSTRALIAN and she did not think of herself as being descendant from any other country but here!

We really need to move on nd that doesn't mean I want a republic cos i don't give a ........ .I just want us to understand that we are AUSTRALIAN and not beholding to anyone especially the pinks bits cos if you look they are where most of the trouble spots in the world are, Canada and us seem to the only bits that aren't fight each other of the rest of the world!

This probably one of my pet peeves Grump, except it goes further for me.  Growing up in the country in the 50’s onward, the country called Australia is no longer anything like the Australia we loved.  How many here can remember leaving the keys in the car was ok, heading off to Perth or somewhere for the day and not needing to lock the house?  As kids, we’d take off on the weekend mornings and not come home till just before dark - no problems. Then we had the American etc, influence set in.  There’s been some good come out of it, but life was a lot simpler then.  It does peeve me a bit, but I treat it like the WAFL v AFL arguments here.  It’s footy evolution, so join in or carry a gut full of shit for the rest of your life.  There’s some people here that can’t grasp that.

It goes a bit deeper than that I think. The whole country started going downhill from approximately the mid 1980's. And Australia becoming a republic will not be the answer because it can't help the country climb out the hole.
Did last year not teach people anything!?
Having said that, this country does need to learn to stand on it's own feet. The constant media reporting of the queens children and all the other crap is pointless rubbish. Then again, everyone makes a fortune from all the crappy advertising - so it must be good for you.
Can easily understand the frustration of others, sadly the once great country of years gone by will not be coming back. All sad to say             

I think you’re pretty close to the timing WAG, but being a country dweller, it didn’t really hit me till I moved to Perth in the early 2000’s.  Now things are out of control for the average Aussie.  Now we’re subservient to the yanks, shit scared of China and rely on the rest of the world to tell us how to think.  Glad I’m a 50’s baby.

My Family got here in 1850s and grandparents were very Aussie, but still considered themselves to be "British".

Better than being ruled by the Chinese which is what the future is.

This place starting going to pack from Whitlam onwards, this Al Grasby Multicultiralism means no one has a bloody clue what we are , at least before we all knew. We are 50 different tribes all pulling in a different direction.
