waguy: as your post suggests the whole name was rubbish from the start. George G., commented at the time and remarked that 'there used to be eight centres of excellence in the state known as the WAFL clubs.'

Swans supporters have to face facts - we dont have a lot of money, we need everything to go right and decent senior player on the park every week to be competitive.
Blight and Banfield gone for different reasons, Ellard cant get on the park, Rogers not on the same page as the coach which also happened under Harding, Ugle was working away or unavailable I think for a few weeks.
too much pressure on Palmer to carry the load..Faulkner no longer up to league standard as cant run, Stewart and a few others overweight and unfit for league footy.
blokes will move on but play the kids and see what happens and the pressure is on the footy manager to deliver some decent senior players to the club in 2019 from ammos, country and anywhere else.

MO we will have even less money moving forward if members continue to walk away through poor performances on the Park eg DW, mikeh & 42.
I know we are in a new era of WAFL footy where buying premierships year after year a la Subiaco is totally unsustainable but one might think after 4 or 5 years of pushing the development barrow we might have started to see some results from this focus?!

I’m aware of all of those difficulties but it seems like we don’t have a goal to be better or grow from that and until we do we will be in never never land. I’d rather have a plan and fail than to have no plan at all!

18 of the players that played on Saturday have come through Swans colts at some stage.
11 of those have come through since 2013 so they are getting opportunities.
the last time the club tried to buy a flag we nearly went broke, we cant just go and buy 5-6 top-line players to push us into the top 2-3 teams.
WP actually dont have the money to pay the players they have so wouldnt be in the top 3 had they followed the vigilant line other clubs have to take with player payments.
BH - you need to take your view to the board and get their view on things, then they can give you an overview of where we sit.

Danger - you need to take your views to the board, if you have a plan that involves us being a top club without breaking the bank then let the club know and get yourself on the board..

MO I do speak with some board members regularly and I know our financial situation currently (they have done a great job to turn our situation around from almost closing the doors to being at least back in the Black in this current economic climate and all done of our own fiscal back without help from the WAFC unlike some other clubs) and I have also discussed with some in our football department so am fully aware where we are at and I have encouraged others on here to do the same but what I am saying is after a focus on developing our own for some 5 years now at what point do we actually start to see some on the field rewards for this toil and yes I know we have had a lot of our best talent drafted but we no longer thanks to the WAFC get any financial benefit for that focus either!?

BH - in the last 5 years we have made the finals twice, missed out by 3% another time, finshed last and this year will probably miss out again.
take out Subi as they dont count, WP wouldnt be in the 5 if they had to pay players according to their finances as other clubs do and we are in the mix with Perth and Claremont behind South..
young players will only thrive with experience around them, that is the what the club needs to sort out and do it within its financial means.
my only query is whether the footy department have done a good enough job getting in players from other comps though the medal winner in the South West last year Cleggert plays reserves for Subi, we need to get blokes like him to come to Swans and sell the opportunity to play league footy to these blokes..
we should be getting an invite to the best player in every country and local comp in WA, get on the front foot as its been a long time since Swans got a diamond out of the rough from a country or ammo comp.

If I were Swans I'd be having a crack at some of the better reserves players in the WAFL as well. Subi has done well with Sokol and Fimmano although there have been a few spuds along the way, but you only need to develop a couple of gems to make it worthwhile. I'm not sure who's around at other clubs but at Subi guys like Daniel Leach, Jack Beverley, Jacob Miller, James Eccles could all being playing league at Swans, East Freo or Perth if given the opportunity.
