What are you suggesting as an alternative Swandog. Should Essendon put players on the field who are clearly not up to the standard both physically and ability wise and put them in a seriously dangerous work environment or should they look for the best talent available and see if they are interested in having a crack at AFL. Seeing that the AFL won't let the club sit the season out because of their oh so precious TV deal I think the most responsible thing the club can do is look for genuine talent who have missed out in previous drafts and give them a lifeline some of these guys may never thought would happen.

Personally I think the club should sit for a season on the sidelines as a future deterrent to all In football. I for one won't be watching AFL in 2016, maybe never again such is my disgust at my club and the AFL hierarchy.

DW In my opinion ABSOLUTELY NO WAFL or SANFL club or any other club not aligned to the AFL competition should be adversely affected by the disgrace of Essendon's doing in trying to get top-up players. They go with what they have or the FORFEIT their matches. If Essendon/AFL want any WAFL players THE ABSOLUTELY BARE MINIMUM in terms of compensation should be a 6 digit figure for this season and any subsequent continuous year they compete in the AFL. AN EQUALLY ABSOLUTELY THE WAFC SHOULD not GET even ONE CENT from such compensation.

I fully understanmd that it would be extremely difficult for a player to say no if they were offered the opportunity to play for the disgrace known as Essendon.

Don't stress guys...

"THE AFL has revealed its rules for Essendon's hunt for top-up players and set a two-month deadline for the Bombers to replenish their list.

Essendon will only be allowed to recruit players who were on an AFL club's list within the past two years or from within the Bombers' own VFL team, unless otherwise approved by AFL general counsel Andrew Dillon."

"- Essendon can't sign more than one player from the same club – except from its VFL squad – unless otherwise approved by the AFL's general counsel."

Would the money which, I'm guessing, will be minimal, be worth Crowley moving East for 1/2 years?

As a side note to this conversation Swandog....how do you reckon Alex Howard would go at AFL level?

DW I have previously suggested that he is good enough to be drafted.

Underdog why should Swans be disadvantaged by losing Crowley to the disgrace known as Essendon? It just further demonstrates the contempt the AFL has for the WAFL and the SANFL.

Would be pretty ironic if Essendon picked up a former banned player like Crowley!

Well it turns out that Essendon cannot grab players who haven't previously been on a list so Howie is safe. In answer to your Q I think he shows great potential and last year showed he was a bit of a rock for us, particularly when under pressure. Given another year of improvement I think he could make it, but I hope not as I want him at SD
Beneath the Southern cross i stand, on Bassendean Oval, can in hand, Swan Districts, you Farkin Beauty!

Agree mate. Something about Howie that makes me think he'd suit AFL footy.... Don't see him beat often against the best in our comp. I guess he needs to add a little more daring to his game but can't fault the guy for playing to his coach's instructions.
