Might try and get things back on track eh !!

Swan Medal.

I was interested to read the " Team of the week " on the wafl web site each week , so I decided to work out how many swans players made it over the year and what percentage of the games they played during the season they made the team.
The results are very interesting and may be an indicator of the order of the way things fall on medal night.
Remember the selection of the team of the week was from independent eyes and not of swans medal voters.

Simpson 46.2
Davis 45.0
Ames 42.1
Broad 35.0
Riggio 30.0
Blight 27.3
Jukes 25.0
Elari 21.4
Notte 20.0
Riddoch 13.3
Wilson 12.5
Faulkner 11.1
Rogers 10.0
Daniels 9.1
Burnham 7.7
Blakely 7.1
Ugle 7.1
Geappen 6.7
Houghton 6.7
Carey 5.9
Howard 5.3

Considering the number of games Simpson , Blight, Elari & Jukes played, there results are outstanding , especially Simpson.

Anyway something to ponder.

That's a very interesting insight Kingstone, my top 6 will be Davis, Broad, Riggio, Notte, Simpson, Ames..but should be quite an even count

Any of the names mentioned would be worthy of winning the Swan Medal. I would throw Rogers into the mix as well.

I expect the likes of Rogers, Elari, Cary and Riddoch amongst others to go to a new level next year as a result of our missing the finals this year. Broady should, and possibly Howard, be drafted this year.

Just another interesting fact.

This State Squad was selected in May
our reps's

Tallan Ames, Justin Simpson, Tony Notte, Ryan Davis, Matt Riggio.
( compare to list at end of season provided earlier )

My sources tell me that Blight was a shoe in's as well but got injured in the last 10 minutes in the game against West Perth, Just before the state squad selection. This in my opinion along with Faukner going down about the same time was one of the reasons we got over run as Blight was dominant that game. Also interesting to note that the last time we played W.P. Blight kept Nelson to his lowest possession count ever ( 11. only had 7 to 3/4 time when Blight was moved onto Van Berlo ). i think he might still be in the mix for higher things. Broad started his climb about round 6 just after state selection. If that state game was played now. i think those 2 would be in it as well.

So if the stats provided earlier are anything to go on id say whoever select's that Team of the Week each week is pretty well on the mark and pretty closely match's our most valuable players.

I think your right about Nathan Broad heading into the AFL. He still worries me a bit with some of his kicking and decision making when under pressure, but there is no doubting it that he has had a breakout year and deserves a go. And those boots..........I suppose it was those or a pigtail. ( Boeky style ... works though )
Alex Howard is one of those unsung hero's in my opinion. He just gets on with the job week in week out and because he's not interested in the "Specky " to be noticed, he more than often slips under the radar. He would be one of the fist ticked off in team selection each week i would have thought. Maybe a rookie draft prospect,
I must say i think Rogers has become a better player as the season has progressed and i'm glad he has realised that he has the strength to bust through packs now and attack the ball. His accuracy in front of goal needs attention ( 25 goals 16 points ) . Can't single him out though as some of our scores this year hurt us in the end. What if just just 3 more of the 159 points we kicked this year went straight !!!!!!!!. We'd be lining up against EPE.

I think Ricky Cary has found a new home down back. In my opinion he is better there than up forward.
As he has a long accurate kick it gives us the option of him as the designated kicker back in.

I mentioned "specky's " earlier. Rudy needs to straighten up a bit more often rather than trying to bring the house down with every kick. Mind you it's bloody entertaining !!

Elari is just a very hard nut . I often though he would make a good crumber down forward. Combine him with Jukes and the opposition backs would have problems.

Congratulations to Tim Geappen on his retirement and thank you for your outstanding contribution to our club. I hope he still pops his head in regularly. Thank you Again . who the hell replace's him ........???.

Well the year we again punched well above our weight but it just got away. And now the boredom sets in for 6 months.

Great summary of the season Kingstone. Contrasts markedly with some of the other garbage being tossed around on this site over the past 48 hours.

Some good points Kingstone. Erceg has been developing nicely as a key back in the Ressies as well. Having the ability to swing Ricky both back and forward is an advantage like we used to do with Tony before settling him at CHB this season. I would stick with Nuich & Houghton as key forwards long term with Ricky mixing and matching and then have dangerous smalls like Jukes, Davo, Rogers, Rudy & Nelson who can all take a grab. We have more coming through from the Colts as well.

Davo with Simpson second.

Broad the smokie and Rogers will pinch a few votes.

Taking into account the likes of Simpson, Ames, Ugle, Blakely, Blight, Elari, Jukes, Geappen, Banfield, Cary, Houghton & Riddoch have missed large chunks of footy this season with injury or suspension that may harm their polling chances I have listed my Top 6 for the year but in no particular order-

Ryan Davis- another great year from Davo who is the spark that ignites the side. Last years Swan Medallist who went on to win the Simpson Medal for WA vs SA and gets better each season.
Tony Notte- the 2013 Swan Medallist who never plays a bad game and is a highlights reel with his aerial ability unsurpassed in WAFL football. Tony along with his fellow defenders in Amesy, Simmo, Kirky Ugle et al are the heart & soul of the team.
Matt Riggio- Riggs best year at the Ducks especially with his consistency and he has become a real leader at the club.
Matty Rogers- a real unsung hero for mine who has taken his game to another level this season. I have made mention elsewhere that Rogie has really impressed me with his leadership in that he is always geeing the boys up and has been a model of consistency up forward for us who has hit the scoreboard more regularly as well.
Alex Howard- Howie is another who keeps on improving year by year and is now a very accomplished half back who backs his judgement and also provides good run rebound from the back half. Would not be surprised if he is taken in the draft.
Nathan Broad- last but not least Broady has been a great story this year with his improvement so dramatic that to mine he is now become a bonafide star of the comp. His dash from half back or on the wing is a treat to watch and is also very hard to beat one on one where his overhead marking ability has been a pleasure.

Just my 2 cents worth as I have seen it this year, would be interested in other Swannies supporters thoughts.

Matt Riggio is this years Swan Medallist, congrats to Riggs after his finest season at the Mighty Black & Whites.
Dave McKay won the Reserves F&B, well done Truck.
