Swans have 6 regular season games left before the finals. They could still possibly finish anywhere from 2nd down to 8th such is the close nature of the competition. They play West Perth and Claremont twice and Subiaco and Peel once. By my reckoning Swans would need to win 3 out of these 6 to sneak into 5th spot.

I think given the evenness of the season a 50/50 record with a good percentage will be enough to make finals. Make no mistake all these games will be very tough but if Swans can play with the same commitment and desire that they demonstrated in their last match against East Perth they can certainly do it.

Also any more than 3 wins would put them in the running for 3rd spot and a double chance in the finals but that is getting way ahead of ourselves, the focus of the boys should now be to beat West Perth next week and give Swoop and Amesy a great start to their testimonial night.

Reviewing the year so far for the Black and Whites it has been great to see that 39 players have so far pulled on the jumper for the league team this year, including 10 of the 2014 colts team who have made their debut. It has been exciting watching these new players who have all made an impression.

My best/worsts so far

Best win: V East Perth closely followed by the win over Peel which was a complete all round performance.

Worst Loss : V East Freo at Bassendean, they just didn’t turn up that day.

Heartbreak moment : V West Perth at Joondalup where a 26 point lead evaporated in 5 minutes of mayhem.

Gusty win : V East Freo at Shark Park where they hung on for dear life in the last 10 minutes

Swan Medal Favourite : Tony Notte
Most improved player: Nathan Broad
Courage award : Aaron Elari
Rising star Award: Dylan Nelson
Not performing to level of talent: Ricky Cary (there is still time Ricky)
Best AFL Draft Prospect who has played league: Levi Ridley

Its going to be a fantastic fight for those 4 remaining spots in the top 5 ( West Perth are almost there so maybe only 3 spots)

Great synopsis Mike, I reckon you will go close to securing one of those 3 wins this w/end. I have liked the way we have gone about our footy this year @ WP but the loss of Gaud may prove too significant. He has been in career best form the last 4-5 weeks and I think we will struggle to win a flag without him as we have a young midfield and Generals are worth their weight in gold.

Great Analysis mikeh.

Also depends on if we get back Ugle, Blight, Simpson & Elari.
These 4 will make a huge difference to our team.

Can anyone give us a progress report on these players ??

those are 6 tough games fellas.....if you make the 5 then you would have truly deserved it.....all those teams bar Subi are pushing hard for finals and a lot of those games will be 8 pointers.....SF fans will be smiling at SD run home.....EP have the alignment to to help or hinder their progress.....EF are buried and Perth are dead and buried.....

Mike, I don't think EP can make the five -- their run is

P
SF
C
S
Peel

Swans should get there, I think

The remaining rounds are going to be most interesting for Swan Districts. The run home is Rd 17 home, Rd 18 away, Rd 19 away, Rd 20 home, Rd 21 away, Rd 22 home and Rd 23 Bye. Swans have a good Home ground advantage (currently at 2.5) and have the second highest attack strength at home. Their percentage currently is quite good and will get better with the remaining games they win. If they can keep any losing matches to a minimum, the percentage will not suffer too much.

Yes a good percentage can be worth a game on the ladder, I think Swans only loss by a large margin so far was to Subiaco by about 50 points. Swans have a bye in the last round so hopefully they can wrap up a spot before then and not have to rely on results in Round 23 where Peel play South Fremantle and West Perth play Claremont.

I think you may be right Arkroyal. They would need to win 4 of those games ( you missed one game V West Perth). On current form you would probably only give them the Perth game as a sure thing. Form can change quickly though and Swans will have to be on their toes till their last game of the season.
