Very good summation as always Mike.
Mate only the 'modern day footballer' would think it the right decision to handball to a player in as bad if not worse position than themselves whilst still well inside defensive 50 at the 30 minute mark of the last qtr when you are 2 points down  feck me whatever happened to the tried & tested formula of pulling the trigger by going long and straight down the corridor where also Swoop was causing them some issues one on one???????????????
You really just have to shake your head at the 'modern tactics' sometimes!

The way the game is played at AFL level feeds down to the WAFL levels. Some of the decisions to kick backwards and square in the backline are mind boggling. Just a classic example of the bizarre way the game is played these days, perhaps someone can explain why Tallam Ames kicked to Jacob Burnham from deep in one back pocket to deep in the other back pocket when there was no clear player for Burnham to kick to after he received the ball? Another example which you see countless times in virtually every game where a player kicks backwards to a player who then kicks back to virtually the same position from where he received the initial kick. Then the player kicks the ball down the line which could have been done with the first kick?

Another example of 'modern footy' is where you are a few goals down and yet don't have any players in the forward line.

So from yesterdays game, my thoughts on possible changes for the game next week

Ins: Elari(hopefully) Whitsted, Kirkup and Riddoch. If Ugle not fit Wilson could play in his place

Outs: Coniglio, Smirk,Daniels,Murray

I want to stress that I don't think that any of the boys that I am suggesting as outs have played poorly. Particularly Murray who has really impressed me with his ability to make good decisions. I just think we may need some more experienced bodies to stand a chance against the Eagles reserves.

Ricky Cary had a very poor game yesterday but I think he needs to be retained as a tall because East Perth are likely to have Johnson, Lycett and McInnes at their disposal.

surprised not to see Broady in South Freo best players in the paper, had a great year but he was involved in giving South 5-6 goals with his brain fades in the backline, has been great this year but that was the Broad of last year.
Grescos panicked too much down back and needs to be dropped as well, Smirk actually played ok down there I thought Mike.
Coniglio and Daniels were off the mark and Murray was ok but copped a decent hit early which slowed him down.
Burnham is another who racks up cheap stats in the back pocket but is too slow for a winger but seems a Harding favourite.
Ugle getting cleaned up hurt us and we did well to get so close in the end.
And bring back Rudy and give us some X factor in the forward line !

Ricky is the one in the gun for mine he hasn't fired a shot this season and seems to have lost all confidence in his marking and his lack of forward pressure only adds to our woes.

Agreed, we looked better when he goes to the backline.

Apart from our kicking skills which wore poor I couldn't believe how many times our blokes on a fine day got 2 hands to the ball and couldn't hold the mark, especially the big blokes Cary and Houghton.

Grescos' decision making and disposal was horrible!

Grescos, Broad and Burnham were Souths most effective forwards - South just gave those 3 the ball and waited for the turnover in their forward line.
Add in Coniglio and young JD and we had some blokes who fumbled and missed targets

And remembering SF had 372 Ball Disposals for the match & SD did 317.
That equates to 55 more/less game ball disposals, and yet Swans only lose by two points.
SF running at 31.00 Disposals/ Goal and SD achieved 26.4 for the match.
Apparently, a close game throughout and neither team gaining a real ascendancy, from the reports heard.
When Swans win in Round 15, they’ll push in front of Claremont on the league ladder, as the Tigers are one of the teams with a bye.

An interesting late move from Harding on the weekend was to put Ames into the ruck to give Doc a chop out. He gave us some good clearances in the last qtr and might be worth pursuing whilst also maybe opening up a position down back for one of our young guns like Ansey to fill the defensive role and sending a message to Cary & Houghton that we need a lot more from them.
