The first quater Swans had the ball in their 50 quite a bit but did not put points on the board.
Second quarter was just pathetic. Really played poorly. Claremont out worked and how hustled the Swans terribly. The effort was similar to the east freo and south freo games where the boys just did not have the fire in their play.
3rd and 4th quarters were a bit better. They came out with some passion and I thought played hard with purpose. They fought their way back into the game. They just dug too deep a hole in that 2nd quarter. Cannot take anything away from Claremont but Swans did not play that 2nd quarter.
Nathan Broad I thought had a good game as well as Notte. Donovan at times was a little bit bull... went hard I thought. Blakely I though played well though at times he seemed a bit winded and that is understandable.
I would say, especially that 2nd quarter but as well the whole of the game that Ithink some players maybe should have a game in the reserves. There are some who on talent belong in the best 22 but there were times where guys just did not seem interested in being there much less playing with some passion and pride. Harding said at 3/4 huddle that he thought there were guys who had much more to give than they had.... he was not at all wrong.
Sitting next to the truck they had for the Swan coaches was an experience. Listening to some of the comments and conversations. There was some real frustration comeing from the coaches.
Last weeks effort would gain a win most weeks. Yesterdays effort, especially the first half will see most games over done with by half time.
The boys will need to lift next game as it certainly will not be easy. They need to play focused with pride and passion for all 4 quarters.

Proabable a bit rambling on here, sorry about that.
In short Claremont controlled that 2nd quarter but we made it easy for them. Swans did come back the 2nd half but the damage was too great to over come.

Understandable frustration from the coaches SH. The fadeouts/brain fades pretty much every week are just unacceptable and has cost us at least 3 games this year already and unless the whole group make a stand together to stop this rot they will continue as atm we seem incapable of playing 4 consistent quarters a match!

Have noticed Swans had 47.5% of the total game ball disposals whereas Claremont's being 52%. Claremont were doing 12.3 disposals / scoring shot and Swans ran at 18.4 disposals per scoring shot.

Lapses in concentration during games are costing Swans big time. In 3 out of 4 losses this year, one poor quarter has cost them. This is the difference between this year and 2014 when they were 6 wins and 1 loss after 7 games. Swans now face a real challenge this week but to even be competitive with Subiaco they need to play 4 quarters of hard nosed footy.

but Mikeh doesn't that go with the territory of playing your young fellas?.....or are you referring to the more experienced guys here?......SD start last year obviously has set a benchmark...pretty hard to match it, as the second half of 2014 showed and so far this year.....

No not just blaming the young guys, I think its the experienced ones as well. The 2014 team was just as inexperienced but had the ability to switch on for longer in games.

that start was definitely out of the box mikeh....most pundits had picked SD to finish last with all your losses...great to be part of no doubt at the time as a SD fan winning so many on the trot, especially with such a young team...sets an unrealistic benchmark perhaps....

...frustrating thing these days is that, the AFL will take all your really good youngsters and by the time your other youngsters get the consistency desired, fellas like Ames, Simpson, Geappen, Riggio, Davis will be much closer towards retiring or already retired.....

Unless we are getting some reasonable coin out of playing in these country games what seems every year I for one would be quite happy if we didn't participate in them at least for a decade and let a few other clubs slug them out. I make that now from 20 odd games we have only won 2 with a draw thrown in against WART!
