The March Dinner Meeting Date and Agenda has been modified to accommodate with the Players jumper presentation in the Swans’ Function Centre at 7.00pm 14 th of March. With Swans Coach Greg Harding as speaker, where he will give us a run down on our prospects for 2013 plus retired Swans Captain Josh Roberts presenting the players jumpers. Please I encourage all Swansmen to participate in this event. Entry is only $10 per-head and a voucher will be given to Swansmen members to redeem for dinner. Pre-sending the Players jumper presentation at 6.00pm to 7.00pm is the Volunteer Thankyou BBQ which will be in front of the canteen near the players race.

2012 was TV veteran John Crilly’s 27th Telethon. That represents a lot of sleep he has done without, together with juggling budgets, booking the artists, preparing the running sheets and successfully producing this 26 hour event each year. A lot of the success of Telethon is put down to John’s work behind the scenes. Together with being the Executive Director of Telethon for many years, John has been working in television all of his life. From Olympic Games to Miss Universe Pageants, from setting up World Series Cricket with Channel 9 to working with the West Coast Eagles, John has had a distinguished career in television and has met just about everyone who is anyone in the entertainment industry.

Come along and hear interesting stories about World Series Cricket, World Championship Wrestling, Michael Jackson in Perth for Telethon and many others from a well-respected and veteran of many years in the television game.

George has been a home brewer for over 20 years mainly in EXTRACT brewing (kit form). In the last 2 years George moved to All Grain brewing which is a lot more complex than extract brewing.

All Grain brewing is done from scratch and George designs his own recipes, grows his
own hops and learns temperature control and chemical reactions.
Last year George entered the Perth Royal Show and was rewarded with two Bronzes in the Amateur Section. This year George has upped the ante by entering 8 beers in the WA State Amateur Brewers Competitions which will be held in September and at the Perth Royal Show in November.

A place in the WA State Amateur Brewers Competitions will earn him a right to enter the Australian Amateur Brewing Championships which will be held in Canberra later in the year.

So come down to the Swansmen Dinner Meeting this August and try out George's beers before they go off to this year’s competitions.

Sad News

Leslie John Bowen passed away at 4.45pm on 20/02/2014

On behalf of the President, and Committee of The Swansmen, We offer our condolences to Bowen family. Les was a Life Member of the Swansmen who gave his time without question a dedicated volunteer over many years, he will be missed by all at the

Les is now at peace

Condolences to Les's family. It would be difficult to find someone who had a bad word to say about Les, which is remarkable when he worked as a parking inspector for the City of Perth for a number of years. It wont feel the same at the club this year without Les being there.

It hasnt been good over summer breaks the last couple of years for our great club losing great stalwarts like Les and Johnny Mac amongst them

Ive uploaded a photo of Les that Ive always liked. Its from a Westside Football in September 1990. Brad Shine had just played his last game for Swan Districts in a reserves final in the Preliminary Final,which Swans lost by 2 points. After the siren a photo was taken of Les congratulating Brad on his career.

Yes it is sad to lose stalwarts, and good blokes to boot. Didn't have the pleasure but feel sad anyway.
