Well after finally getting a win last week against Peel we make the trek to Leederville to play the confident Royals after they disposed of Subi last week.
We will probably have to make at least 4 changes this week after losing a few boys to injury (although not according to Freeze, the WAFL injury list and The West) and Noble suspended in an incident I cant even recall.
EP have quite a tall side as do we but their midfield has had a lot of the ball with the likes of Ramsay, Kerr, Lynch, Robertson, Blee, Scott etc racking up big numbers in a lot of their games.

We just have to find a way to get 3 or 4 more goals in a game BH. Otherwise we are going to struggle against a team that are averaging 20 points more than us per match this year. Our defence are 3rd in the competition in terms of points conceded but we have only scored 238 points in 5 games, average 48 points per game. That will not get the job done against East Perth.

Sheesh I can remember us kicking more than that tally in 1 game let alone 5 in the late 70s/early 80s! :pinch:
God oh to go back to those days when football scorelines didnt resemble soccer as they do nowadays!

Yes August 11th 1979, we kicked 40 -11 - 251 against Subiaco who managed a lazy 20 - 7 -127 themselves. It was raining goals!

Another one I witnessed was early 1981 at Lathlain Park when we scored 38 - 21 - 249 to beat Perth by 162 points. In 21 games that year Swans averaged 144 points per game!! The crazy thing was that this was only 2nd to Claremont who averaged 159 points. Insane entertainment. Even bottom of the ladder Perth who only won 3 matches came out at a tick over 100 points per game. No wonder the crowds were flocking in to see this sort of high scoring footy.

That was the era that got me hooked on the game and club Mike.
You would go to the footy each Saturday morning excited and anticipating a high scoring match with the Respective clubs Full Forwards who could kick a bag of 10 or the bigger haul.
Nowadays teams dont even kick 10 goals in a game and if I were a kid now im not sure if I would follow footy as keenly as it is not the superb sport I grew up watching back 40 years ago anymore, in fact in many games I am as bored as batshit these days with racking up meaningless disposal tallies and tackle counts :(
Pray for the days of the fast leading, 100 goal a season Full Forward to come back again!

BH and Mikeh I suspect (or know) that FF is not a fashionable position for many coaches and kids, they want to be the bigger mobile player that can play all over the ground albeit not always that well.

We need to encourage players to develop into FF's like McDonald at perth and a kid at EP Amiss who looks like he could develop nicely.
We live in a time where intelligent people are being silenced so stupid people won't be offended

Here’s a topic bease! How do we get the game back to that positional play? It’s the only way to increase one on ones and long kicking. Do you guys think following the colts rules could help! For those that don’t watch I think they have to have 3 in the forward 50 and another 3 in the front half at every stoppage and kick in. Is that right BH?

Pretty much Marley except also 2 from each team have to be Inside 50 as well at stoppages and kick ins from the other end.
We have to look at doing something like this as a lover of the key forward role I am totally disillusioned with this modern day press up the ground nonsense...take last week for example in the first qtr we had all pressed up into Peels half of the ground but won possession and when our player looks up with the footy the only person from SD to kick to is Sideris who would be 165cm tall to kick too one on one with his opponent and they then hold on to the ball as the likes of Kohlmann, Noble etc are still making their way back up inside our 50 from the dreaded "press". I know all teams do it but it is bloody defensive garbage.
All it would take is one of the modern day coaches to buck the trend away from the sheepish coaching herd and go with a Malcolm Blight/Graham Moss/John Todd/Mal Brown style all out attack and have success with it and they will all follow suit in copying!

Imagine if back when all of us WAFL diehards on here were growing up and we had this modern day coaching at that time to deal with. The likes of the following Gun Forwards from each WAFL club would not have had as great a career and we would have been all the poorer for it-
CL- Warren Ralph, Ross Ditchburn, Norm Uncle, Geoff Blethyn, John Hutton, Todd Ridley
EP- Phil Tierney, Archie Duda, Paul Arnold, John Scott, Glen Bartlett
EF- Bob Johnson, Jim Sewell, Ian Thompson, Darren Bennett, Andrew Lockyer
PE- Murray Couper, Peter Bosustow, Mick Rea
SD- Eric Gorman, Max George, Mark Olsen, Simon Beasley, Brent Hutton, Garry Sidebottom
SF- Bernie Naylor, John Gerovich, Ray Bauskis, Mark Jackson, Jon Dorotich, Peter Sumich
SU- Austin Robertson, Todd Breman, Jason Heatley, Brad Smith
WP- Ray Scott, Ron Evans, Phil Smith, Brian Adamson

And going back to before WWII would the great Full Forwards of all time have got a game with this ridiculous "style of play" of today-

Rant over :woohoo: .........Now getting back to this weeks game I heard Fish interviewed on the radio yesterday mention we had 4 injuries come out of last weeks game plus with Noble's suspension there could be at least 5 changes to the side vs EP on Saturday, a good opportunity for a few young blokes now to step up and try and cement a place for the rest of 2020 and beyond.
