Obviously too late in the season, with finals on the line, for Voges to spring any surprises....but Midland Guildford skipper Keaton Critchell scored 2 100's in the recent 2nd XI win over Tassie and young Freo teen opener Douwtjie Hoogenboezem, scored a couple of mature solid late 40's in the same match. Tassie had the likes of Ranbird and Meredith in that attack, so good experience for all the WA youngsters and not so youngsters in D'Arcy Short.

Surely with a name like Douwtjie Hoogenboezem, Voges will give the kid a game.....apparently didn't play in the 2023 U/19 state carnival, due to a last minute injury.....It's a pity WA youngster Corey Wasley injured himself during the warm up U/19 games in SA and won't be playing in the U/19 WC ODI final v India....gutting for the young fella, as he was a lock for that number 5 batting spot.

Though young WA quick Beardman should hopefully be flying the WA flag in that game for Aust.......big ask though, as India's youngsters have continued their dominance recently at this level.

What I'll say is I've been involved with two premier cricket clubs - one relatively successful, the other persistently unsuccessful without a flag, state or even second XI rep for yonks. Premier cricket in WA operates like the EPL. That may well be fine and dandy and the natural order of things for some from a competition point of view, but not for player development. I'm now seeing blokes from the unsuccessful club play in rep teams after moving to more successful clubs. There you go Squeeze. Put that in your pipe.

Big week down in Tassie where we will find out whether WA will be giving themselves a chance to defend either of their titles. Firstly there is the Marsh Cup where victory will earn WA a place in the final, probably in Sydney or Melbourne. Two new faces in the squad in Keaton Critchell who made a century in each innings of the recent 2nd XI game and Bryce Jackson who is a seam bowler. Hopefully they do well if they manage to make the cut.
The Shield game starts on Friday and is a must win for WA to retain a realistic hope of qualifying for the final. It will be very tough though as Tasmania are flying and at full strength whilst WA are missing so many first choice players at the moment.

I'm not sure if any of you blokes followed today's one dayer against TAS but what a terrific performance by WA with a frankly patched up team. Darcy Short, magnificent, loves that joint. Keaton Critchell, what would he be, 5th in line as an allrounder in the state? The depth of WA cricket is just astounding.

Was a great result Dazzler, however it would have been an interesting result if the two blokes for Tassie that got injured could have batted

At least we made the final and can have a chance of defending it, however NSW is i red hot form right now and have the wood over WA, especially over there.

The final is 25/02 (Sunday week) so we have time to regroup and get a few up for it

It will be interesting to see if Connelly, Turner or Morris could get up for this game. All probably unlikely given the quick turn around. My understanding is that Aaron Hardie and Jason Berendorff are not touring NZ with the 20/20 team so you would assume they would be available for the Sydney final. Now time to focus on the shield fixture and hopefully a good result in that as well.

2 blokes from NSW we have to stop in order to help our hattrick of Marsh Cup title hopes are D.Hughes & M.Henriques who have obliterated us of late in all 3 formats!

Yep and if it rains like it always seems to do in Sydney then NSW win anyway!
