The other thing, which is worth adding in relation to our bowling stocks, is the lack of diversity in the attack. We had three or four left hand bowlers in the recent past ---

Capes
Matthews
Mulally
Reid
Julian

Wasnt Sam Gannon a left armer as well AR? David Boyd another?

Not surprising that during our extremely successful 30 year period from the late 1960s to the late 1990s the key was we had a quality fast/medium bowling attack (quite a few of whom were left armers) with the likes of Lillee, McKenzie, Massie, Gannon, Malone, Brayshaw, Clark, Alderman, Baker, Porter, Reid, Matthews, Macleay, Capes, Mullally, Angel, Julian, Moody, McCague, Atkinson, Spencer, Nicholson etc all playing during that era with success.

The above list during that golden era could all swing the ball which is essential at the WACA especially bowling into the strong Fremantle Doctor in the afternoon.

Which begs me to question why the hell is Joel Paris not playing in this game?
As he both swings the ball and is a left armer!

Could be a decent days cricket tomorrow. SA will probably want to add about 100 runs and set WA around 350 in about 70 - 75 overs. That would certainly be a challenging chase. Outstanding innings once more by Cam Green who seems to have an insatiable appetite for runs which is a great trait to have.

A pretty disappointing lot - there isn't backbone when it matters and it looks like a loss to the bottom side is coming once more
add another wasted season to the drought

Ahhh Duncan Spencer - Spanner was second only to Jeff Thomson in the speed brigade before he had back surgery and I remember he clocked at 158kmh or something like that
We could do with someone unpredictable and ferocious like Spanner nowadays

The Warriors were lucky to get away with a draw. Cartwright batted with an injury apparently and Gannon batted for 50+ balls. Only Green and Bancroft emerged from the game with any credit. The Croweaters may reflect on maybe batting for a bit too long to get 500 when 450 may have been sufficient and given them some extra time in the game. The wicket was a road for the first 2 and a half days then apparently became tough for batting or was it just poor batting? Set up a very exciting finish but lets face it neither team is going to be there at the business end of the season.
I wonder how this WA team might fare if there hadnt been this waste of a 20/20 tour of New Zealand
Phillipe
Bancroft
S Marsh
Green
M Marsh
Stoinis
Inglis
Agar
Richardson
Gannon
Kelly

mikeh: not much better -- there is no top class batsman in the top six; Green has been in good form, happily; MR Marsh's batting average is just 32.00. Stonis averages a fraction more, but nethier would have been considerred for the top six twenty years, and, certainly not forty years ago. WS Andrews averagged 40.00 during his career. You need to pick on performane, irrespective of whether a player has contract.

Turned out to be a good shield match. Both states scored monster first innings scores.Than SA scored a quick 230 and set up a Wa chase.Tail done well to hold on.

How good is Cam Green? 160 odd n.o. in the shield game last week then another 144 in the Marsh Cup today. This kid is going to be something special if he's not already.

What a run fest that was today. 725 runs in 100 overs. SA were in a very comfortable position with 12 overs left, needing 90 with 9 wickets in hand but they imploded, losing 9 for 76 including 4 needless run outs. Well done to the WA boys for keeping their heads in the field but the Croweaters really chucked that one away after Head and Nielsen had played brilliantly.
WA's innings revolved around centuries from Marsh and Green. The sky really is the limit for Cam Green. I can see him being chosen in all 3 formats for Australia as he has a vast range of shots as well as an excellent defensive technique.
