Well not a great start vs the coVICs in the Shield match at Karen Rolton Oval today with coVIC 0/150 after being put in to bat by Marsh after winning the toss (yes can you believe it, he did it again).
Pucovski especially making our bowling attack look deadset ordinary which it probably is tbh especially with Morris going down after bowling only 3 overs leaving us a bowler short for the next 3-4 days.

In better news Australia A (aka NSW) were rolled for 64 in their 1st Innings vs TAS.

BH, Pucovski certainly looks technically sound, more so then Burns, thus if JL is true to his mantra - runs are currency - then he will give the young kid a debut v India 1st test....wouldn't call Kelly, Gannon and Green ordinary mate, still gotta score the runs I guess, no matter the quality of the bowling attack. As for your NSW/Australia A mantra mate, it could be a thing of the past if JL gives Aust rep gigs to the likes of non NSW boys in Pucovski, Green, Sutherland, Swepson, Meridith etc over the coming months/years...time will tell I guess.....

Pretty underwhelming start to the shield season TBH. Mainly high scoring draws with batsmen filling their boots on docile Adelaide pitches. The only result that caught my eye was the one where NSW were bowled out for 64 on the first day and still ended up winning the game by 145 runs. A record fightback apparently. You would hope that with the border restrictions being relaxed the rest of the shield season could be played on some more spicy pitches including the WACA

God help us all if they bring in an U-23 team.

I see the muppets at CA have announced and made a reduction to the end of the cricket season with the Sheffield Shield (8 games) & Marsh (5 games) One Day Cup both being reduced by a couple of games each.
Why they would not just do away with the Marsh Cup and have a full 10 game SS season I will never know, especially as most of the Test team will be available to play in it.
Or even better how about reducing that silly KFC Buckethead Cricket tournament that goes on for an eternity and is really only played by those not good enough to play Test cricket for their respective countries!

On a somewhat positive note though it looks like we have avoided having to play a near full strength NSW/Australia A again in our remaining games.
With WA missing 9 players (M.Marsh, Phillipe, Turner, Stoinis, Short, Agar, Richardson, Behrendorff, Tye...the latter 2 unlikely to play proper cricket anyway) travelling to NZ to play in a moronic 5 game T20 tournament it will leave some gaping holes in our team but I guess it does give opportunities for young players to make their mark.
Possible WA team/squad for the SS games upcoming-

Bancroft
Whiteman
S.Marsh (C)
Green
Carder
Cartwright (or Fanning, Hardie)
Inglis (w/k)
Paris
Kelly
Gannon
Moody (or Hardie, Guthrie, Morris, O'Connor, Rocchioccholi, *Connolly)

Does anyone know what has happened to young Jayden Goodwin this season?

Jake Carder really needs to get an extended go at the top of the order. Forget trying to turn Whiteman into an opener.

Jayden Goodwin has been in Zimbabwe doing charity work.

Cheers Dazz, I had wondered where young Goodwin had been as I hadnt seen his name in grade scores this season.
I agree re Carder & Whiteman too but the selectors seem intent on pushing ahead with it.

So for those like me who can't wait to see a bit of live cricket at the WACA, here are the fixtures in Perth for the remainder of the season

Sheffield Shield
25 - 28 February V SA
25 - 28 March V Vic
3 - 6 April V Tasmania

The only other game they have is at the Gabba against Queensland starting the 6th March

One day ( 50 over ) Cup
2nd March V SA
23rd March v Vic
8th April V Tas
They play the other 2 states away in Mid March. So a total of 15 days cricket in total at the WACA between now and early April.
Gives us something to look at while waiting for the footy, in fact the Tassie game is on the Easter weekend which is also round 1 of the WAFL.

A good win to Victoria over second placed NSW, which helps us in third. It would be nice to win the Shield which actually matters, as many other posters have pointed out over the years -- twenty of them, just about.

A tremendous win by the Vics, Ark.
Young Jake Fraser-McGurk kept his cool despite Nathan Lyon bowling like we'd wished he had against India.
A big day looms in Hobart where Queensland, with quality batsmen in Marnus Labuschagne, Joe Burns, Usman Khawaja and Matt Renshaw, will fancy their chances against Tassie's more-than-useful attack.
