Get rid of the entire salary cap BS.

Total free market. cut the red tape.
What is going to save the clubs from themselves if there is no salary cap? Most clubs struggle to break even as it is. There would be massive pressure on clubs to pay the same players more money with no improvement to the quality of the competition.

Not sure we want the financial restrictions removed from a very well resourced West Coast and Peelmantle either.
A curious feature of the WAFL is that 2 teams are allowed to play currently listed AFL players without any need to worry about how they fit into the salary caps or player points quota's that the other 8 have to abide.
All agreed to by a majority of WAFL clubs on the proviso that the WAFL clubs received more cash - we’ve sold our soul as a competition that many times that we can’t bitch about the inequities that aligned or stand alone AFL reserves teams bring to the WAFL

I see your point don't get me wrong. Still going to bitch, because it isn't the fans that are necessarily agreeing to the AFL clubs wishes, though fat lot of good it is going to do.

Was just thinking about salary caps and the fact that the 11 Freo players that suited up for last weekend Qual final would easily account for the entire 8 traditional WAFL teams combined salary caps.

The entire thing is a charade, every club is trying to find back doors and accounting gymnastics to get around it, some clubs are a lot better at getting away with it than others, some had mates on the WAFC board that were able to turn the audit tap on and off when it got a bit too close for comfort. WAFC ignored it for years and now all of sudden is running more extensive audits and clubs are coming unstuck, as for clubs struggling with no cap - it's a pity the WAFC wasn't more pro-active in its Financial Fiduciary Audit duties when WPFC were running an insolvent business for years, perhaps they were just too embarrassed to look.

WAFC were going to do it anyway, the WAFC Constitution allows for it all that was left was trying to negotiate the best deal possible, but then rewind the history tape and your point is still valid as it was the WAFL clubs that handed over supreme power to the WAFC on its formation after the WAFL and Indian Pacific went bust.

This is what happens when you decide to employ "creative" accounting methods. Chickens are coming home to roost.

Its easy for you DD. Perth don't have to worry about being audited by the commission. You have to finish in the top 3 for that to happen!

So Ti Em, does that means Subi would be the most audited club in the WAFL in the last 20 plus years?
