No we don't go into this weekend with any confidence at all, that the WACA will sort things out and deliver the goods. I can normally manage without eating at the footy but did have something at the WACA last season and it was pretty good. That was in the boundary room and it was a pepper or capsicum stuffed with rice - very reminiscent of the polish dish papryka nadziewana. It came with a side of vegies and was washed down with white wine. Can't remember if there was dessert. But back to tomorrow, with this weeks odd timing so that footy clashes with dinner time, what we are hearing is a real concern. But you never know, as they say, a week is a long time in footy

Sharks by 35. Tough loss against the reigning Premiers and I’d expect a bounce- regardless of the outs. But the team is very good on paper but doesn’t quite deliver- something just isn’t right. Probably the food

The footballs commission's decision to lift the training restriction placed on Subiaco FC appears to have had an immediate effect. Beau Wardman's declaration midweek was ominous. Fans of the club aren't discussing their chances of winning. The concern is the catering at the WACA. The presidents lunch no doubt will have excellent nosh but for the rest, from all reports, is terrible.

We aren't going to win this week that I can accept but what if I forget to eat before I go to the game? BC and SS are right its the food that is the issue here!

Just to wet the appetite, courtesy of the WAFLvideoarchive, from a time and place when the food at the footy was proper.

Hey TM...does the score 7.26 ring a bell?  Just asking that's all as I vaguely remember it playing a vital role in Subi winning a flag a few years ago. :-)

Definitely lost my appetite that day after that 7.26 loss to Subi. Touch wood EF have as many shots on goal tomorrow with a more accurate outcome.

Joyce and Marsh are two big outs, but congrats to Marlin and McGuire on their EF debuts. Always good to see new faces get an opportunity. Marlin is a decent size, be interested to see who plays on who....Jupp to Sokol, Jansen on Borchet and Marlin or Turner on Mayo?

Subi look good on paper, EF will definitely need to kick goals at both ends, something they definitely didn’t achieve last week and paid the price in the end. EF by 22

85 grand final! Tough day! Watching that replay, I kept thinking maybe we could win it. Best finish by Subi.  They should have won that. I'm still scarred. What a great atmosphere that day. I'll never get over it.

Ron Alexander pretty much benches himself for most of the match so considering they have 1 extra player Subi perhaps should have won. Finals experience and ascendency over Subiaco during that and recent seasons would have given the blue and whites a belief they would outstay their opponent. A lead gained half way through the 2nd term was maintained for the remainder of the match.

What is going on with the final siren? You don't hear it on the replay but luckily the umpires did. Phil Scott has kicked a goal as it supposedly sounds so it is possible that cheering drowns it out. But then again wouldn't most of Subi's fans have left the ground by that point?

Other points of interest:

The 1985 season was the WAFL's (including its precursor, the Western Australian Football Association) 100th anniversary.

There is a 25 metre arc at both ends of the oval.

The 1985 finals series was Subiaco FC's first since 1974.

The largest lead of the game was Subiaco's quarter time lead of 27 points.

Warren Dean kicked 5 behinds (and a goal)

Clinton 'Camel' Browning bagged 6 goals in his first game playing in the forward line since his under 10's days at Kellerberrin.

... and is not to be confused with Clint Brown.

A crowd of 42,657 was in attendance and it was estimated that the radio and TV audience was exactly 250,000.

Brian Taylor obviously had photos of the Simpson medalist voting panel committing unmentionable acts.

AND most importantly

In 1985 the hotdogs at Subiaco oval were better than at the WACA today.

Wrensted was huge in that 85 GF for EF.....Camel kicking 6 was definitely Simpson Medal worthy.....but Wrensted for me.

2023 at the waca. Pretty grim, too. Softer umpiring, though.

Pretty comprehensive win. Looked like Subiaco got ahead of themselves after some tight wins- just don’t see the talent out there that Claremont or WP have. Potent forward line though if they can get them the ball. Too many EF rejects as well across both grades. Didn’t see the Reserves but they must played well to knock off reigning Premiers and previously unbeaten.

Some interesting changes by Bill and co pre-game with Dixon leading the Ruck and Jansen back in the middle. Felt like the game should’ve been over earlier but Subi hung in there. Leggett took his chances and O’Reilly was good but EF had the ascendancy through the middle with Murdock, Turner, McDonald, Jansen and Baskerville finding plenty of it. Lennon Marlin looks like a good pick up as well.

Big test next against the Tigers
