4 unanswered goals in the first 10 minutes (when it looked a matter of "how far "East Perth?") and 4 goals in the remaining 100 minutes - not a great day at the office for the Royal brethren.
And we were goalless at the southern end, despite having more chances than a pensioner at a bingo night to regain the lead mid-to-late in the final quarter.
Rushton Park has the narrowest pockets that I've ever seen on a footy ground, but our players preferred using checkside/banana kicks from the right forward-pocket instead of the traditional drop punt.
However, the outcome wasn't helped by Robbo injuring his hamstring in the opening minutes, while we certainly missed the penetration of Angus Schumacher's long-raking left-foot kicks.
Still, full credit to the Thunder for having our measure for most of the day.
With their good win immediately after the main event, the seniors' defeat would've motivated those reserves players on the cusp of selection for the upcoming ANZAC Day clash, which won't be easy given the Demons' improved form in 2024.
Peel had a noticeable height and weight (not that you can talk about players' weights these days) advantage, so I hope that we go in taller against the Demons.
Given the potential he's shown in his short but injury-affected career, you'd hope that Tom Graham will come in to play at full-forward, where we struggled yesterday, while Alex Pearce must be an almost certain inclusion having averaged 30 disposals per game in the reserves and played all bar 1 senior game in 2023.
As well as the reserves, well done to the colts, Rogers Cup and, in particular, AFLW (maiden victory) teams on their wins.

you have to be careful going too early against the AFL cohort - it near always bites you hard on the arsepiece
had a glance at the ruck business there and saw Jones got worked over
that will have contributed to that loss
still it's only R3 and plenty to reverse learn

I agree with you about the dangers of underestimating the AFL cohort, Southerner, particularly given that Peel played in last year's Grand Final.
Yes, big Max Knobel had a clear edge in the hitouts, but I thought Scott Jones did more around the ground (though, surprisingly, he only took 2 marks).
What a start to the 2024 WAFL season it's been, with 4 of the 5 games this round decided by less than a goal (I wonder if this has ever happened before).
West Coast's upset win over East Freo today would have to be the biggest boilover in WAFL living memory.
Had Claremont kept their composure around goal against your boys yesterday, every side would've been either 2-1 or 1-2 after 3 rounds.

this one is a football ladder
the results have been a bit unpredictable
only take a couple of Claremont wins to see last suddenly challenge for top 5
did I see SF second after 3 rounds ??
if I said yes
it would be reasonable to be expectant on the arrival of a winged gilded swine at 3pm today

I thought our much vaunted midfield looked a little slow against Swans last week, where we were lucky to be in front at 3 quarter time, and again yesterday at times against Peel.We seem to lack a pacy line breaking mid,as well as a reliable power forward, although the promising Tom Graham could be the answer,he appears to spend more time off the park than on.
