BH: good one -- I am sure Mick would have played there -- alongside Ron Baynes. In 1978, he played full-forward and kicked 11.8 against your beloved black and whites. It was just about our last win for the season and I don't think we beat SD again until 1985.

Hard question, AR - bearing in mind most of my Subi memories are 60s-early 80s.

I haven't seen a big man dominate like Mike Fitzpatrick did in 73 - if there was a contested mark, you could put your house on the fact he would take it. And he was only about 6'3" .

Ocker over so many brilliant years - in most of which we struggled, but he was still kicking 100.

The sublime skills of Cam Blakemore, Wally Martin and Keith Watt.

Brian Sarre at FB - very rarely beaten, even though the team was being flogged.

Featherby just because of his endurance and ability to pick up possessions.

Sorry - I can't be more definitive. :)

Thanks Jack, you have been very informative indeed. How did you rate George Young?

Very highly - I actually thought about him when I compiled the above list.

There's something about those sweeping left footed HFFs - Neil Randall would also rate, but not as highly as GY.

George could also play cricket a bit. :)

From the players I have seen, Kettlewell was the pick, so versatile, would have been a champ in any era. of recent times the big Syrup was the most talented if not the most consistent, could turn the game of his own boot when he felt like it. Especially remember the '08 GF when Swans were 4+ goals up about 25mins into the 2nd qtr, big Dave woke up and in the space of about 7 minutes mainly off his efforts we hauled them in and went in at halftime with a lead, it was all over at that point.

"Wig" Ambrose was a great CHF, occasional ruckman, won a sandover, one of the hardest working blokes on the field if not the most talented. peter Eakins played a fair bit at CHF and went on to have a career at the Pies.

SS: yep, you can always tell the talent impact of players if their presence in the other team would have made a difference to the result, something true of both Abrose and Maplestone.

Two more whom have played the position have been:

Daniel Parker
Scott Gooch.

nice one SS...I forgot about big syrup. he had some tank on him for a big guy. reminded me of Nick Riewold with the amount of ground he'd cover in a game.

Scott Gooch was a really talented FF, kicked some massive bags in the 2's but his opportunities were stymied due to the presence of one Jason Heatley who for me is line ball with Skidda as Subi's second best FF after the WAFL's greatest FF Austin Robertson.

Had incredible reach for marks, you'd think the kick was going over his head but big Syrup would somehow pluck it from the clouds.
