Matt Rogers out for a week for a bump on Black. Who will captain?

The Bush?
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

42 with all due respect I actually go to WAFL games and not only SD games I might add.
I attended the P vs SF game in the last round last year on a Saturday night at Lathlain Park and it was a fantastic atmosphere with the set up they had there that night in the outer- wine tasting, craft beers, dj pumping out tunes after goals etc and it had me thinking that should be the way of the future to get that coveted 18-30 demographic market attending WAFL games.
It wouldnt be for the old fossils but we cant rely on them forever and we need to find a new younger fan base and that sort of set up incorporating WAFL footy could be the way of the future!
Great post, absolutely spot on.

Come on down Thursday night 42. I’ll buy you a Yumbo.
Yep it was a carnival atmosphere, quite a unique experience for the WAFL. You might be onto something BH. Well done for being there.

Daz not sure a Yumbo would be the right carrot for Swan42. A flask of hot water and some Earl Grey teabags and some fresh baked scones might be the go. Spoiler alert, the Yumbo only has a few weeks to go before its binned again which is about where it belongs.

A lot of people (myself included) will be taking the Friday off to make it an extra long weekend, Thursday night could work well if promoted properly as the kickstart to a long weekend, so not as weird as you might think!

A hell of a lot more people will be at work and the kids have school the next day, its weird alright.,

I gurantee you that game would of attracted another 500 -1000 more if it had been played on the Monday of the long weekend, massive opportunity missed.

The stands at latho are coming down in a few months as well, so it will be quite a while as a construction site with even smaller capacity. ( if thats possible)

Let me preface this post with the disclaimer that I am not privy to any discussions that Perth may have had about this.

Depending on how long it is scheduled to take to demolish the stand and build its replacement I can't see how it would be possible to stage WAFL games at Lathlain Park Oval during that period.  It would seem to me to be far more sensible for Perth to play their home games at Basso Oval during that period subject to a reasonable financial arrangement to the two clubs and the availability of Basso Oval.

For those advocating night WAFL games it would be great to see some hard KPIs that can be used to measure the success or otherwise of those games.  As I pointed out Perth played Swans in a game starting at 5.10 pm on a Saturday earlier in the 2021 season.  It was the infamous "no scoreboard" game played on the 10th April.  The attendance figure for that game as per the WAFL site was 1,650 and for good measure from the BOM site the maximum for that day was 28.5C.  Again providing additional context it was round 2 of the 2021 season.  Perth had beaten the WCE reserves and Swans had scored probably their highest score in recent history against one of the favourites to win the GF Claremont in round 1.

Does an attendance of 1,650 for the night game indicate that there was an increase over what one would have expected for a day game?  Again to provide context the first fixture's attendances as per the WAFL site between Perth and Swans for seasons 2018, 2019 and 2020 with the home team in parentheses were: 2,099 (P), 2,110 (SD) and 2,558 (SD) respectively.  How does 1,650 stand up against the previous 3 years and noting of course the special circumstances of the 2020 season?

If you actually attended games regularly 42 you would realise 1650 is actually one of the better crowd turnouts this season so far!
Crowds are well down and I have never seen so many attendance figures under 1000 as there have been this season although admittedly most of those games have involved either WCER & or Peelmantle!
Night/Twilight games may not suit your agenda or those over 60 but they may well be for the 18-30 demographic in which we need to target to bring through the next generation of WAFL supporters as many of them will probably have other commitments at 2pm on a Saturday- work, family, social etc!

Provide the proof that your assertion is valid.  I have provided evidence that showed there was a significant reduction in this year's attendance compared to the three previous seasons.  If one was to extrapolate your rationale for having night games we should have every game at night to maximise attendances.

I look forward to having a debate, in person, about this.
