Did James Hird show his flaws in rejecting the Fremantle offer of a forward scouting role and an opportunity to work with Ross Lyon? In my opinion it was this attitude that brought about his downfall as a senior coach. He didn't do an apprenticeship with any assistant role prior to knifing Mathew Knights in the back to jump straight off The Couch at Foxtel into a senior coaching position.

In the only televised interview I've seen when he addressed the role offered by Fremantle, he said it "was a small role". Does he think it is beneath him to have a scouting role that would have allowed him to spend most weekends in Melbourne? Maybe even a senior assistant role would have also been declined because he thinks it is beneath him to be someone's assistant coach?

I just think it shows the flaws in the man to knock back the opportunity to get back in the game and build some credibility back.

I think you’re spot on DD. The bloke has no bounds on his arrogance. The average person that knows he is hated by the majority of the footy world would jump at a chance to start over again. He’s like today’s generation, wants to start at the top on the highest pay. I’d like to think that most people that went on a free holiday to France and given a mill dollars would return and make a generous donation to grass roots footy. Not him though, it’s all about James. Honestly mate, your club is much better off without a slug like this.

A bit harsh there boys....I'm certainly no fan of Hird after what he did to his players but maybe he just doesn't want to work with Freo and/or Lyon....it's a matter of personal choice I guess.
