One of the great footy and business characters of the 80s, who could forget his loud brash style and love for Carlton.

Unfortunately all the Premierships he bought as president came back to bight the club on the back side with the salary cap cheating.

Lest us not forget his love for the Liberal party - though that could of just been opportunism. Certainly a degree of tribalism given the length of his involvement. Carlton FC's two premierships during his time as club president, sadly for us supporters of the famous old dark blues, certainly offset by huge salary cap breaches and penalties incurred as a result. Mind you, it is easier to name the clubs who were not at it than were. 

Huge character in business and footy, passionate about his club, worked on the basis of, "it's better to ask forgiveness than ask permission" when it comes to how he ran Carlton and the salary cap issues.

I always felt his best line was "Whats the difference between a banker and a wanker?"
