I realise many will be offended. That is not the intention of the post. Just some thoughts because our whole society is out of whack.
Just heard the news that federal/ state politicians will not be receiving a pay rise this year.
Why is/was one even being considered?
Been led to believe the pm is currently earning almost 550 thousand a year. NSW premier = 408 thousand/ year. WA premier approx 360,000 a year. WA opposition leader on 280,000/ year. And so it goes on and on and on and on and on & on!
Surely one needs to be asking the question as to why?
Is the Salaries and Allowances Tribunal or whatever it's called nowadays out of date and should it be canned!? Why do all these highly paid people such as pollies, company managers/ directors etc and etc need to be so highly paid, when in the next sentence there is far too many people trying to survive on struggle street!
Sports people all over the world are not immune either! Many of them earning between 300000 to a million dollars per year. Many US basketball players and european soccer players earning hundreds of thousands of dollars/ week. and yet in the next sentence there are too many people whom are finding it difficult in earning enough just for life's basic needs.
And yet everyone carries on as if that is normal!! Our whole world is completely out of whack! And the current situation in the world has shown that in a very bright light. Or people should be able to see it!
This will need to be one of the topics for discussing once this virus thing passes and we come out the other side.
The world will not be the same place after this. My life has changed from what it was just a few short weeks ago. And there are many other pressing matters that will need attention and huge changes made to. Is going to take many many years for the world to recover from the current crisis.

The review would have been in place for some time, been plenty of other things for the pollies to think about, but have done the right thing and cancelled it. Next step of true leadership would be for all pollies and senior public servant to take a at least a 20% temporary pay cut.

On pay rates, pretty disgusted with the AFL ... again, the AFL management/board etc have taken a 20% pay cut, the players association have offered to take a 50% pay cut which is commendable, the AFL have rejected the offer, wanting a 79% cut, what a bunch of total wankers, Whatever the players cut is should apply to the AFL fat cats.

You ask Why.
The pollies pays have to remain relevant otherwise you won't get anyone to serve.
While Drectors of big companies have no idea how the other half lives and keep pushing up the pay of their executives supposedly to attract the best, then who in their right mind would be a polly for that type of pay. Not me, I can earn more in my practice. That is why I admire Julie Bishop, she could have been earning 2 or 3 times as much as a partner in her legal practice so she was in politics for the good of the community. Gillon McLachlan advised on the weekend that the combined Salary of the top 12 AFL execs was $10mil and from where I am sitting , no one is worth that amount to run a footy comp.
Raise the salary of the Pollies and we might attract a better calibre than disgruntled sportspersons, musicians, teachers and union leaders that have never had a real job.
While on that FFS can someone tell Shane Warne to shut the fuck up on any issue outside of how to bowl leg spin.

As noted on the SEASON POSTPONED thread, Senior:

AFL boss Gillon McLachlan has given an undertaking to match any pay cut accepted by the players in a bid to break the wages impasse.

McLachlan and the league executive had previously committed to a 20 per cent pay cut,
