The best thing Sumich can do if he gets the job is to keep his yap closed until he wins a flag. Open your mouth too early and you leave yourself open to the karma train.

Well if those reports are true I hope lives up to the hype because the media have seemed to pump him up as the clear favourite from day one. They must know something about him I certainly don’t. I think he’ll be under a lot of pressure to deliver the goods.

That would just about end any AFL coaching gigs in the west for Sumich.
Reckon he probably should have gone east as an assistant somewhere else to improve getting a senior gig at a club.

Reckon the PFC would be a good fit for him,has coached at senior wafl level, assistant AFL coach and kept up to date with modern day coaching/tactics at state 18’s level.
No bigger challenge than than the PFC.

Agree, whether it is fair or not his best chance of getting an AFL senior coaching position was if he was at an AFL club. Makes you wonder how much he wanted it - by that I mean after not getting the weagles job it was unlikely they would ever again consider him and only circumstances meant the Fremantle job came up. His name has never really figured in the mix for a number of AFL positions that came up this year.
He is unlikely for Adelaide, Essendon already have their next senior coach so can't see any other positions looming for him now. Interesting that current assistants got the gigs at Carlton, North Melbourne and St Kilda, a current assistant is getting the Essendon job in 2021 and Adelaide likely to go with a current assistant or Ross Lyon.
Interesting comment about Perth because if Sumich is this, this and all of that as a coach he would be a good get for them - as stated no bigger challenge and Sumich would have a chance to show his wares.
Although if it really is a senior AFL position that he wants then I don't rate his chances (or any other coaches for that matter - unless it is a recycled senior coach such as Lyon, Scott, Pyke et al) of doing it from outside the AFL club system.

SF might also be of the view he'll be a great fit to replace Todd Curley who might be coming to the end of his tenure at South's. Perth would always come second in that race.

Seriously guys.
A WAFL coach gets 60-80k tops.
Assistant coach in AFL 200-250k
Colts Coach in WAFL 60k
State 18's is a far more prestigious and better paid gig.
So why would Sumich want to coach a WAFL club for that sort of money especially Perth when the top tog at Perth and former football manager was appointed because he was the only person that would do it for the 90-100k he was offered.

Sure - perhaps the state 18's gig is better paid and more prestigious. Not disagreeing with that. Is it the right move if you want to be a senior AFL coach, maybe it is - though it doesn't look like it is working out so well for him if that's his goal.
