Interesting that the Dockers picked another Victorian (Sam Sturt) with their first draft pick in preference to the highly rated local boy Ian Hill, who everybody thought would have been taken earlier. I wonder if West Coast will now take Hill with their first pick tommorrow.
Here is what the AFL site says about Sturt
The left-footed mid-size forward is courageous, strong overhead and possesses nous around goal. His excellent athletic profile was demonstrated at NAB AFL Draft Combine with top-10 finishes in agility and 20m sprint tests, while he won the vertical jump (right foot). The talented cricketer only committed to an AFL career after finishing school football commitments at Peninsula Grammar. Starred in the APS v AGS representative game and has shown his untapped potential in his handful of games with the Stingrays late in the season.

Just a skinny pimply boy. He could turn out to be Nat Fyfe, or Marcus Drum. Nobody has any idea.

Valente looks like a good prospect. Captain of the SA under 18's and a good stoppage player apparently.

I think Freo have picked two tall mids in Sturt and Valenti at 189 & 187 cm. We've lost a few tall mids over the last few years in Barlow, Crowley and Mzungu and Mundy is coming to the end..

Freo have picked up some ripper recruits this year. If your coach can’t get the club climbing into a final, then........

We will see what sort of coach Ross Lyon is sharkie now he can't complain he hasn't got the cattle or been affected by the expansion clubs which he has used a few times when the heat is on. I think that was a legitimate argument that Fremantle hadn't had a chance to have a crack at the best talent in the land for a few years there but the wheel has turned and the rest of the competition has picked the eyes out of the two expansion clubs.

I think in Ross's first 3 or 4 years Fremantle did pick a few duds in the draft but the last couple of years they have drafted and traded very well and Ross should be licking his lips with what he's got at his disposal and you could see the enthusiasm in a couple of the new recruits from Victoria and SA they can't wait to get here. Obviously the trading of Hogan and Lobb has a fair bit to do with that enthusiasm along with being team mates with Nat Fyfe.

Freo have recruited well and with a soft draw they should be thereabouts at the half way mark if not Lyon will be in trouble.
