A Bio on the Brian,Dan and Des Foley

"Timothy Brian Foley is a former Australian rules footballer who played with West Perth in the West Australian National Football League. He occupies a forward pocket in West Perth's official 'Team of the Century'. Foley was a ruckman, nicknamed Big Blue due to his red hair, and when he retired after the 1965 season had played 202 games for West Perth. Career highlights include winning the 1959 Sandover Medal, two best and fairests and a Simpson Medal when he was best on ground in West Perth's 1960 premiership side. From 1960 to 1964 he was club captain and he represented the West Australian interstate team 21 times during his career. In 1957 he signed a "Form Four" agreement that tied him to North Melbourne, but he was refused a clearance by West Perth, so he never played in the Victorian Football League. His son Dan played in the Victorian Football League with Richmond during the 1980s and his brother Des played for West Perth and East Perth.

I remember Dan Foley back in the early 80's as one of those players who left to go play in the VFL before they were really ready. Was a good CHF but should have stayed at WP for another year or 2 before heading to Richmond.

The chance most probably wouldnt of come again if he did that I reckon Beasley and his injuries would of most probably of prevented that as well if he continued on at WP.. Had to grab it while he could.
Did you listen to the interview?

Yeah I heard the interview Cardy it was good listening as they are every week. I love hearing from the guys who played in the WAFL back in the day, if only the WA media gave our past home grown champions of yesteryear as much acknowledgement as they do these Vic blokes who really dont mean much to us over here!

Yep that Masters Show is good listening and entertaining. I didnt know it existed but do now and will try and listen to it on Saturdays before the footy. Good thing is it is replayed on 91.3 podcasts under programme podcasts.
Not sure on the title AFL Masters show as it usually concentrates on WAFL x players etc?

Anyway here is the link for anyone interested

www.sportfm.com.au/programs-podcasts/

Thanks to Jack at 91.3 who found the Dan Foley interview which I caught the tale end of. I looked at interviews and couldnt find it so emailed the station and Jack pointed me to the Masters show where I found it. Pretty sure the Masters show has interviews as part of their programme each week. :cheer:

Happened across this while looking for something else on another topic..

Rare footage of Blue Foley,Mel Whinnen and not sure if Lucev played but he was listed in the reserves.. Now correct me if I am wrong but in those days the reserves only went on when someone came off with and injury and took no further part in the game.
Could be wrong..

Anyway a great watch.. SA V WA 1964

Looks like EP has a lot of key players out on Monday so that is good
Glad Wulff is out as he is a dangerous man in more ways than one. He has Elbows of stone..Umpires look ok though and wont put up with any Shit
I dont put match previews on here anymore as a waste of time and I talk to myself... Just put everything on the WPFC FAN page on FB..
