Its hard to say this and came as such a surprise, but that game was as close to the 'worst' I've seen the boys play in the last few years , first game off the blocks or not.
Rather than mention players names, as many would and should be totally embarrassed by their performance, we under committed, gave the ball up so easily in contests even with embarrassingly continual precise passing of the ball - TO THE OPPOSITION (one player in particular sadly), over worked the ball with incessant handballs (not part of the game plan I'm told), continually kicked across play and then behind play only to lose the ball (again and again), almost NO FORWARD PRESSURE at all, sloppy execution and on and on BUT then we only lost by 3 points??
On the other side EF ran the ball swiftly and effectively, were cohesive in the execution and seemed to play and enjoy the experience as a team BUT only won by 3 points??
Our last 10 minutes of the game was our saviour and a possible insight to the years possibilities...........
I'm sure that Bill saw many positives of individuals (ruck and the odd midfielder who tried all day)but he was livid about many others and Mondays review of the game is going to have many a player wishing he was somewhere else!!
Wrap up;-
*One report (Crisp)- rough play I'm guessing, could get a week due to the EF player being removed from the field with large gash on head and slight concussion.
*One player with possible big shoulder injury - taken straight down the race to return with grimaced face and half of Perth's ice manufacturing attached to his shoulder.
*Two BIG inclusions to be made in several weeks - Krak's & Manning - both these guys will give us back the 'forward pressure' totally missing yesterday not too mention 'Goal sneaking' that didn't exist yesterday.

Yes only the first game, but its not like we had many omissions or the guys haven't played together before ...
So good having Footy back though :)

Great review Growler and I found it a bit depressing but we showed we have the ability at the end but all to late. Congrats to EF on playing a good brand of footy.
I worry that WP were that bad they should of been a lot further in front dont you agree so all doesnt bade well for them.

I watched the Ressies as well and some good things came out of the game.
WP didnt turn up for the first half but once got into gear looked good but again all to late.
I see the qtrs in the Reserves have been extended to 28 minutes no time on. Seems like a good idea as 25 was a bit short and if elevated at least the players had a bit more experience at longer qtrs.

My review of the game.. WPFC was that we are definately missing a forward and a target to shoot for. Sev took some good marks and generally with further games will improve even though he missed a set kick from 30 out that could of made a difference but shit happens. :(

We had a couple out of the side who have minor injuries e.g Embley and Mills. Looks like Branchy has a Hammy problem from the game. Shame as he is a good leader.
Saw some good play especially by Jesse Kirwin who tried hard and alway ran through and in one instance when ran on after kicking got the ball back and kicked a goal.
Others who look ok (in the second half) Lynchy,Rhode and some signs of good things off most of the players in patches. Spencer was in and out of the game but not really up to the league yet but having said that a few of our league players didnt look to sharp. The Kiwi import looked ok and with time he will fit in well.
First hit out by League and Ressies so gotta be fair and give it a couple of more weeks for the guys to get that Match Fitness up.

We went down in all 3 grades which wasnt a nice feeling but we will turn it around.
:)

Mutual appreciation society - good read Cardy ..

Yes, with all that wasn't happening for the team it was really strange that EF weren't smashing us by a much larger amount and then to be just 3 points shy of a win .... oooooops to EF, and yes they need to show a little more follow up to bury a team instaed of taking the foot off the peddle - or was that 10 minutes of WP at their best that EF couldn't stop??

I think Strikey's shoulder may give him grief for the week to come and possibly longer - a walking wounded for the next weeks maybe.
Rhoda looked like he wanted to 'PLANT' several players ... too many weetbix possibly but he appeared to have an anger itch to scratch for some reason?

Looking forward to seeing how we go against Perth (big improvers it seems) and then the AFL reserve teams of course.
Cant help but feel so disappointed for the usual suspect players at both reserve AFL clubs. Cant see many of them getting a decent season in when the AFL teams chock the list up with between 12 and 15 players from their own lists.... sucks to be them I guess.

I still think on our best day we'll smash both teams and if its a Grand final bout between us and The Eagles Reserves at season end - all the critics will be left red faced and apologetic again!!!
Back to Back flags for us.. :-)

Heres a compilation of stats for Reserves and League. I just looked at them and was surprised by some of the big disposals by some of the Reserves on a hot day.
It appears some played 4 qtrs and the rest only turned up for the last 2. Should of won the game by a paddock :(

West Perth Best Players and Goals Kickers
GOALS: 4 D.Rohde, 1 C.Chalmers, T.Sutherland, S.Martin, J.Kirwen, M.Mcphee, A.Lynch
BEST: B.Antonio, M.Spencer, K.Shannon, S.Martin
REPORTS: J.Kirwen

Here are the league stats.. I really feel we are lacking up forward. Glad Slick decided to stay on as effective. Chooky? I am still undersided on him and not convinced he is the go to man.

West Perth Best Players and Goals Kickers
GOALS: 2 R.Bartholomew, J.Van berlo, 1 A.Tsalikis, M.Fowler, J.Jones, S.Marusic, S.Potente, M.Guadagnin
