Freezin wrote: [quote="mikeh" post=26676)As for Tallen's comments, I accept that they may have been taken out of context and may be used as motivation by Duckworth, but my immediate reaction was that it was great for a player to speak his mind for a change instead of the usual sanitised 'media spin' drivel that we particularly get fed by AFL players in interviews. Statements like
"they are a great team" (GWS)
"We knew they were going to come out hard"
"we'll take things one week at a time"
"we're not getting ahead of ourselves"
YAWN!

Good on you Tallen for stating you have ambitions for your team. You may be proved wrong and end up with egg on your face but who cares you are creating interest in the finals

I guess that's why the poms peed on the oval then mikeh?.... to create interest for the down under ashes.....TBH any actions/talk like that does smack of arrogance and disrespect for the opposition......I reckon if it had been a Paul Johnson or Jason Salecic saying the exact thing, you SD boys would of thought what an arrogant tosser.....same as you thought the poms were arrogant for doing a piss ring on the oval!

Cardy what makes me laugh mate is that a lot of folk on this site whinge and cry like bitches to the mods for some comments being disrespectful and arrogant...you actually spat the dummy yourself on FG and left in a huff because you were miffed with some disrespectful comments......and now you are whinging because folk don't speak their mind? :silly:

....it's banter and actually I personally think all Ames was doing was creating some banter, throwing it out there, no probs.....but.....if SD don't make the finals, then yeah Ames will look pretty stupid, but I bet a million dollars the SD fans won't be blaming Ames or the players for missing out, it will be the umps fault.....and you guys will spend the whole off season telling all n sundry how SD were the only team who could of stopped Cl doing a three peat....just like us EF fans thought the same back in 2011! ;)

wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if WP beat Cl in the 2nd semi and Cl get beaten in the prelim......hopefully for Ames sake it's SD doing that and not EP[/quote]

As far as I know Tallen was not peeing on Bassendean Oval when he made that statement :P I think the two scenarios are a little different. You and I both know that often media can twist a relatively mild statement around to make it a headline and I reckon this is what may have happened. I think we are all getting a bit precious when we make a big deal of these comments. As I said its great to get away from these inane sanitised comments that players often make. I would not have a problem with Johnson or Salecic coming out and making big statements about their team

Also I think your argument about disrespectful behaviour is a bit tenuous as the Ames comment was not directed at any particular individual whereas the stuff on footygoss often degenerated into personal abuse. Two entirely different issues. Witty banter ( which is the stuff you engage in) is good and enjoyable to take part in and read
When banter becomes nasty it gets personal - have a look at some of the past Perth threads on this site if you want proof.

Cardy,I would pay an entrance fee just to see you doing some burnouts on the ground on your first prize Harley! Good luck in the draw. Don't think you'd get out of the ground in one piece though...LOL

Actually Mate I would take the Cash prize of $25000. :) Wouldnt get out of Basso alive If I took the Harley and went for a spin. Living in dreams so just a good win by WPFC will do and NO injuries to take us into the Final v CLA.

Broadcast on Hot Country Digital..At least you will be able to watch it on IVIEW Later. This is the site for Hot Country..might have the stream.. Advertising is a bit out of date but it still streams www.hotcountryfootball.com.au/

If my sums are right and Marc Crisp is picked this week it will be his 50TH game with West Perth. Crispy had a slow start at the club but has gone beyond all expectations this year. His form has been excellent and he has kicked a lot of handy Goals. Have a good one Crispy :)

Interview with Bill Monaghan on 91.3 During drive today..News on Slick and players back this week. Answers a lot of questions.. Only 2 not available Teddy and Pettigrew but we were aware of that. A couple might get a run in the Ressies who havent played for awhile to get match fitness (good idea).
All sounds good.

Yeah agreed..but having said that if he did actually say that in context the bald reality is it is probably the truth going on wins v Claremont the past 2 years and the dominant history Swans have over Claremont in Grand Finals. But of course we may not even get that chance yet! In 2011 Claremonts biggest challenge was East Fremantle and they finished 5th

SwanDog EF have a very good record against CLA as well over the last couple of years.
They are a chance this week.. Playing at home as well arent they.. Dangerous

Record v Claremont since 2008 (recent history)
SD = 19 games, 9 wins 9 losses and a draw
Subi = 17 games,6 wins 11 losses
East Frem = 13 games,6 wins 7 losses
West Perth = 16 games,5 wins 11 losses
East Perth = 14 games,4 wins 10 losses

So yeah after SD , EF have the next best recent win loss history v Claremont, If EF find some pace in the next few days I give them a hope this week

the others aren't worth mentioning (SF, Perth, Peel)
Beneath the Southern cross i stand, on Bassendean Oval, can in hand, Swan Districts, you Farkin Beauty!

Swandog not going back that far just last couple of years as team lineups at both clubs very similar. EF will be looking at getting a couple of players back if they are lucky from AFL.

Well last game in Kunnanurra was pretty close from memory CLA v EF

CLA def EF 98 to 95 points

In 2012 EF def CLA at EF 122 to 88 at EF
In the GF EF gave CLA a 9 goal start and almost came back and won it!!

If you want to got back to 2011 EF won 2 out of the 3 encounters by large margins AT EF OVAL.. www.wafl.com.au/games

EF are quite capable of winning this game as first HOME game for them this year and if they do and we beat SD it is end of season for SD.. Interesting round anyway
Sure EP will def Subi? Or they should with players like Smith back

Honestly not concerned as it is a non event for WP but it would be nice to go into finals with a Win v Swans. If we lose it will be a good run for our guys. ;)

Best of luck on Saturday looking forward to a torrid encounter and a great game of footy.

Getting ahead of myself but hopefully they have done something with Medibank!
I suspect EP will go into 3rd spot and get a home final there. Be a pity if the oval is still like a cow paddock for a Final. Hopefully looking at the forecast the next couple of weeks will see a lot of sun and at least dry it out?
Joondalup is in good nick so if we lose to CLA pretty sure we will get a game up at Joondalup. Correct me if I am wrong. All the best to all teams competing this week and may the best man win.
