Jesus. It looks like $4 million promised to redevelop Lathlain by the Feds could go down the drain because the Vic Park council don't want it to go ahead.

Are these people interested in the area or not.

Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

Good riddance that's music to my ears it's all falling into place beautifully as far as I am concerned. Now let's get on with negotiations with the City of Gosnells to develop a new WAFL ground at Tom Bateman Sporting Complex ideally situated across the road from where the new Nicholson Rd train station is being built. Toot toot happy days. No more being dictated to by the West Coast Eagles.

Agree DD, would move you more into the heart of your zone, doesn't need to be the Taj Mahal, just good efficient facilities with up to 4 or 5 k capacity. Either that or move to the redeveloped WACA, but you may be moving from one overbearing co-tenant to another.

Spot on SS but the Eagles can pay us 10 million in compensation to leave our home ground and free it up to do what they want. That will give us the 10 million dollar shortfall making it 24 million which builds us a pretty nice stadium I would think from the ground up without the massive cost of knocking down the massive structure of the grandstand and football facilities that are there now. That alone would cost a fortune. There is just a minimilist change room facility there now at Tom Bateman Sporting Complex.

We need to sell the idea to the City of Gosnells that it brings a higher profile to the area than what exists at the moment though they have national baseball team Perth Heat across the other side. The Gozzie shire could kick in the rest to make a world class multi purpose facility similar to Joondy. Just don't want Venues West paws on it.

The Department of Transport should also be excited at the prospect of a WAFL ground across the road from a new train station and railway line. More bums (no pun intended) on seats on the choo choo.

The biggest problem I would see with the WACA would be attracting sponsors.

So the new building will be situated on the north side of the current stand?
Do you know what will they do with the space created once the old stand is demolished which occurs after the new facility is built?

Shame that it's only now that the DA has been submitted. Council will take a few months to process that and then construction plans and consultant documents need to be prepared then Council approved before any tendering can occur which can take a couple of months. All that before they turn the first sod. I'd suggest it wont be ready until '26/'27 but at least the wheels are finally turning in the right direction. Are poor struggling WC still only dropping $2mill into the funding?

Perhaps the development is TOVP have finally agreed to stump up the shortfall. Blowouts in construction costs meant the difference between the government grants and actual cost has blown out considerably. Perhaps this is an indication they have agreed on a figure of 24 million.

Was told construction should begin next year and be completed by September 2025. Of course these are guesstimates who knows what spanners get thrown at us between now and then.

Just read the council minutes from 18th December 2023. Amazingly long. New plans have been approved.

What's the next stage??

As in has the build gone out to tender - if so have we secured a builder. If so when does it start??
