There's nothing I can say to refute any of this. No doubt some on this site will say it's all our own fault for not not working hard enough, but we have nothing to work with. Success is a distant dream. All we can do is use our grant money to stay afloat and give young players a chance to play WAFL and maybe get drafted, but for the next 5 years minimum, we are not playing to win. Of course, what this does is increase the pressure to align. As a Perth fan and WAFL fan, I am strongly opposed, and would walk away if it happened. But on any objective, dispassionate view, it makes perfect sense.

It would be a tragedy if Sinkers can't play again. 6 games short of a much deserved life membership for a player who has stayed loyal through some very dark times. I think it is another measure of our on field problems that he would be only about the 4th or 5th player to get life membership in about 40 years. I can think of Cable, Nicholas, Dick. Here's hoping he can make it back, but obviously, first and foremost, I wish him all the best with his health.

I don’t think that those that run the show understand the tragedy of losing any of the 8 traditional clubs.   The other 2 are chindogu - no real use to the WAFL and they don’t really add value to the league.  Does tradition mean anything to the WAFC?  I don’t think so and that’s the tragedy.

Maybe things will turn out there in the eastern suburbs. Footy is too good a game not to attract new fans.  Perth's job is to keep  footy pathways open in its city and country zones and wait for more talent to  come throughand then look after it when it does. . Maybe it'll take decades. Maybe things will never change.  Unfortunately for Perth supporters, that seems to be where demographics have left you. But better to be still goingthan not,  regardless of success

Spot on from Townsend
This is the first time that we have finally seen it all set out in all it's starkness. We long suffering members and supporters have been seeing this situation coming for so long and holding our collective breaths hoping that the inevitable would never arrive.
No mergers, alignments, takeovers or the like for me.
If we want to keep dreaming, the WAFC might take our plight in it's hands and do something positive for a change. Yeah, and pigs might finally fly. It would have to shake up the whole WAFL and start again. Hey that's a good idea. No. Pigs still won't fly.
Perhaps there is a highflying entrepeneur out there somewhere who can rub the magic lantern and reverse our fortunes.
Thanks to John Townsend for telling how it is.
123 years of football history gone, just like that.

The CF was established as a sort of future fund and tightly controlled under a Trust Deed which provides strict terms under which the Trustees can call upon the fund. There have never been any situations arise which may give rise to any drawdown.
The funds are substantial. I do not know our current position would qualify it's use. It could be our position does not warrant wasting the money on what may be a lost cause. Presumably there are provisions within the Trust Deed for disposal of the fund in the event that the club ceases to exist or is merged or aligned.

It's a survival fund.
Basically to stop the need to parade a blanket around the ground at a Subi game.
lol
It will never be used to buy players.
Established around 2000, after we nearly went broke.
Thanks to the late Brian Lawrence.
We gave spent the last 20 years cementing our viability financially.
Living within our means and not buying premierships like some.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It's the size of the fight in the dog.
Winning isn't everything. It's the ONLY THING !!!!!!

Read this story on Facebook yesterday.Thats a good way to get the story to the masses.
Well done to John Townsand for his honest and we'll informed article.Hes on the money again ,with his understanding of the Wafl competition.
Wa's population has doubled in the last 30 years. And could double again in the next 20 years.Provided we don't fall out with China.
Perth have to relocate South East and set up .In the heart of there new zones .Where the bulk of there future players will come from .
West Perth  move up the North Coast.Got them stuck in a terrible stadium deal. But on field it was an amazing decision. There a power Wafl footy club.
