Make no mistake, that game on Saturday was lost in the Perth coach's box.

What was McMahon's mantra at 3/4 time - attack, attack, attack.

When it went from 15 to a 9 point lead they needed to get numbers behind the ball.

When it went from 9 to a 3 point lead they needed to go man on man.

What was the response from the coach's box? Nothing.

And when the ball was deep in our forward line with minutes to play we allow Swans to set up from a stop play with three unmarked players goal side, none of our players covering the flank exits and Hams has the choice to go left or right with ball and pick his targets under no pressure.

Complete tactical ineptitude and if we don't make the finals you can trace it back to these last ten minutes of that game.

3 times in that game Daz Perth had Swans by the throat with 3 goal leads and failed to put them away. Some credit has to go to Swans for hanging in there but I agree with you that is where the coach comes into play who can make a difference.

My thoughts are well documented but just in case anyone missed it, this bloke has no feel for the game, he might be a good student when it comes to reading coaching manuals and talking the lingo which will fool the drongo's of the world but anyone who has any idea can see this bloke always comes up short when the stakes are high.

You only have to look at what Ross Lyon is doing with a depleted Fremantle side with a lot of no names. I will acknowledge the club has improved on the field and full credit to the players, the coaching staff as a whole and the recruiters but DM is not the man to lead us to ultimate success. It will be a mistake to extend his coaching tenure. Mark my words!!!

The club has put itself into an awkward position, if we make the four does that automatically validate his position as head coach? No one will admit it but even the defenders don't have a lot of confidence in the coach.

good to get the win in the end..

Phil Smart was speaking to Darryl Sinclair after the game hopefully he asked some hard questions as to what the faaark is going on with their complete lack of inconsistency in decision making from our forward line to the oppositions forward line ..there are some seriously inept whistle blowers in our comp atm with Worobec #1!

Terrific game of footy, kudos to Swans for hanging in there, and ultimately winning it.
Two evenly matched teams, played in the right spirit
Superb skipper's game by Bevo, goals , tackles and voice out there
Disappointing to lose it so close to the end, particularly the ease in which Swans got that last goal.
As Dazzler said, I think the coaches box erred tactically, especially with 5 minutes to go.

Dazzler i posted something similar Saturday night on this thread page 5.

Something needed to be done at the 25 minute mark of the last term at least have 1 or 2 player between the goals and Swans 50 metre arc and Swans wouldnt have got that cheap goal right at the end.
When all the Swans forwards went up to our forward 50 1 or 2(or possibly even 3) should have hung back...coaches lack of insight to coach as the game was being played at that time.

Too much trying to coach AFL style for my likeing.

Yes I saw that 30+ and I agree. Something needed to be done to switch to a defensive mindset when Swans surged but I really couldn't see any reaction out on the field.

'Yellow football' was really what killed us on Saturday but the inability to react to the pressure Swans were exerting in that last 15 minutes was just baffling to me.

At the end of the day it's the senior coach who makes the calls and the buck stops with him.

There wasnt and as good a game as it was...tactically in the last 5 or so minutes nothing happened to change the game.
The annoying thing was Swans caught us on the fast break on more than 1 occassion during the game having everyone up in our forward half so that last goal wasnt a surprise.
Its got me stuffed how we are supposed to score with 36 players in or around our forward 50,the coach should have cleared our back 3 or 4 players out and positioned them from centre down to full back!
Even some of our forwards along with a couple of the backs should have positioned themselves between half forward and wing and created a wall accross the ground.
At least make the contest a 50/50.

Its got me baffled why we try and protect a lead of 4 points going into the last quarter by playing yellow footy why not try and extend that lead to 10 points by attacking, going into the last quarter leading by 4 points or trailing by two is neither here or there imo.

I reckon the close losses are attributed to this yellow footy because we ultimately turn it over and the opposition scores or our lack of scoring in these close encounters when we shut up shot when we've had the ascendancy, and i say this because ive seen it used as early as the 25 minute mark of some quarters.

The only time you should protect the lead is when the game had one or two minutes left and you are in front like the situation in the Swans game.
