A/man I had the distinct pleasure of watching the South's players train at half-time of their league match against Swans at Freo Oval. Do you remember the game?

You seem obsessed with that Mal Brown like theatrical stunt swan42, you also seem to think it has some sort of prominence over the SDFC performance in the 1980 WAFL GF, which of course is pure bumkin.

Was Maurice a one sided player when it came to his foot skills like many left footers or was he an exception to this common denominator amongst the majority of lefties. I'm interested because he was so good at being evasive is this where he developed his deadliest skill.

DW Mr Magic had sensational balance and skills on both sides of the body. You are right his evasive skills are unmatched by anyone that I have seen play. He looked at times to be invisible and unable to be tackled.

Without doubt the best player I have seen in my time...among many greats.

Thoroughly deserved - just a pity it comes with the AFL shit tag next to it

Along with the one & only Benny Vigona - we were pretty blessed with natural born brilliance

Then there was Stephen Michael

I've never seen a sidestep like his since & I've never seen quicker hands than Maurice had since

I think Maurice would be the only player to be B.O.G. in 3 Grand Finals in a row or 3 Grand Finals period 80/81 (Simpsons)/82 (Norm Smith) along with Barry Cable 3 Simpsons in 66/67/68. Cant think of any others off the top at this time of night in the VFL/AFL, WAFL or SANFL
Beneath the Southern cross i stand, on Bassendean Oval, can in hand, Swan Districts, you Farkin Beauty!

Yeah mate there wouldn't be too many instances of it occurring - Maurice just lifted to another level in the big ones

You'll probably hate me saying it again brother but that 2nd quarter of his in the 1980 GF was just something out of this world

A footy masterclass
