Maurice allways delivered in big games for SFreo,Richmond and WA in State Of Origin. The first WAFL Grandfinal i seen was 1978 a famous match. Then 1980 i can remember Swans kicking the first 3 goals and the last 6 goals by Sfreo everything else in between allmost 100 points in front.Magic Maurice was just BRILLIANT that day.

Plus I dont know about you mate but I used to study the Westside footy newspaper every Thurs/Frid when I should have been doing school work so like you I was more interested in the footy on the field than shenanigans off it! And thats why I still like to go to the footy on my own unless I'm with Leedy as we are both the same and generally during the game I only chat with you BH and maybe a couple of others in the breaks as I dont go along to drink piss like a lot of others on here. Your knowledge on WAFL mate is unsurpassed in my view by anyone I have met and by most on here too and like you glad I was a kid when we won those hatrick of flags because it makes those days stand out like beacons in my mind.
Back on topic I believe Phil Narkle was right up there alongside Maurice for sheer magic!

Yeah mate very similar over my way I used to rush to the newsagent after school every Thursday in Winter to pick up my copy of Westside Football, plus I remember reading only Who's Who In Western Australian Football in the compulsory reading sessions at school they were my bible not any New Testament ;)
Interesting Freeze & Bazzas recollections of that halcyon era are of SF & EF and a bit of Claremont thrown in :S and not the side that pantsed all of them on the way to another historic hat trick ..suppressed or selective memory's perhaps?
Gees Freeze the 90s I vaguely remember them  luckily my initiation to WAFL footy was the late 70s early 80s era otherwise I might not be as passionate about the game and my black ducks as I am now!!

Freeze being born in Swan Districts Hospital, having 2 Swans fans as parents, attending a Primary School that 90% of the students supported Swans despite us being moved to the Perth zone not long after probably had some affect on my WAFL team allegiances but probably most importantly to an impressionable young tacker (hence my vivid recollection of the football played on the park rather than playing silly games) was having a family member running around in the famous Black & White at the time that was the absolute clincher!! ;)

BH ever heard of Qantas mate?....any howz I was living the Richie Benaud lifestyle only in reverse mate ;) .....so yep was there in the flesh for 92 94 98....as for your up bringing...fark you have lived mate ;) ....no wonder why you are a B&W fanatic....brainwashed from testicle - uterus - birth- school.....all in the DNA i guess!

yeah Budgie, Taylor, Turco were busy bees for EF...Noel Avery was a favourite of mine with those long arms....dont get me started on Dougie green tho....

I seem to remember Glen Durnthaler was a fav of yours too back then freeze :cheer:

Yep Durnthaler and also Claessen were my two fave players to rant at BH....pity you can remember me saying that but not where I said SD were a fantastic side to watch in the early 80s.....that's my worry you can only remember when SD won not when they lost.....that's the memory of little un mate....too focused on your sammies and beloved B&W to remember what the likes of what champs like Rioli, Peake, Micheal, Vigona,Dougie Green, Moss, Hunter and Krakouer x 2 were doing week in and week out......the WAFL was a shed load more than that SD side of 82 - 84....something you 90s teenagers and todays millenium generation only know through watching U-Tube and researching messers google mate.......and yeah Rioli was fantastic to watch in real mate...not just on the Winners every Sunday night at 5.55

My enduring memory of the great man is as a primary school kid on that glorious Tuesday afternoon in '84 in the south western outer pocket of subi. Paul Salmon recieved the ball and proceeded to drop the ball onto his boot for a comfortable shot at goal, in swoops Maurice and takes the ball from mid air like he was catching a snowflake and is five strides away when salmon finishes his follow through!

Yep getting back on topic to Mr Rioli as I posted earlier (tho freeze must have missed it :S ) was the greatest compliment an opposition supporter can pay to him was he was the only player in that halcyon era bar probably Jimmy Krakouer from C that we couldn't ever stop and that includes names like Michael, Carter, Hardie, Monteath, Vigona, McKay, Barrett et al ..in all honesty Maurice tore us a new one every time we played SF he was poetry in motion as a footballer.

Yep nice analogy BH and it was the same perspective from a Claremont supporter. He was like a 30 possession a game version of Cyril Rioli
