Heard that Willie passed away in the NT - he was a brilliant little player who was drafted by Hawthorn in 1990 or 1991 I think but then went back home afterwards
Rest Gently little fella

Sad news, was instrumental in the late 80s revival and I remember him lobbing in the local school.

An EXCITING spectacle alongside uncle Maurice - 89 finals series, again in 90 before a short return in 94, and then heading back to NT.

Rest in Peace.

Very sad news and he has left us way too soon.
I remember when he first appeared in the WAFL at SF in 1989, he was only 17 but an absolute gun along with a couple of other teenagers who took the WAFL by storm that season in Glen Jakovich & Greg Turner.
Willie and his older brother Maurice were not unllike the Krakouer brothers that year with some of their ability to find each other in traffic and goal sense.
Watching his son Willie Jnr play is like watching a chip off the old block.

R.I.P Willie Rioli Snr
