Remember John Williamson's song "Rip rip woodchip"? It's a wonder someone didn't drag this out during the protest!!

Barnett and his arrogance towards the Roe 8 was a killer. He waited until the last six months before beginning the project. It may not have been so bad, but still would not have gone down well, had he started it 12 months out.But it was total vandalism of the wet lands that cost him dearly.
I wonder how long it will be before the Righteous Right begin to flay Labor for the cost of Barnetts ineptitude on the issue. Then we will have the police wanting their money for playing security guards for private enterprise.
The people of WA spoke loudly yesterday against the arrogance of the Liberals and the blindness of the PHON(Y) party.
But make no mistake the Labor party has a tough job on its hands to get the State out of the mire the Liberals put us in.
It will be a case of knuckle down three fingers tight from day one for McGowan and his party.

A-man, Barnett and the Libs didn't wait until the last 6 months to start Roe 8 they were consistently delayed by continuous court cases (all of which were eventually thrown out) by the Greens/labor coalition. The Libs went to the electors 8 years ago with this policy and were given a mandate for a policy they have had on their books for 30+ years but were thwarted for over 7 years from getting it started, if they were able to start it in their first term , all the anti Roe 8 lobby would be happily driving up and down it and the trucks would be off Leach hwy. But as we have seen, given enough time things change and with massive media support the anti Roe 8 lobby where a major factor in bringing down the government, that's democracy at work and whatever your political persuasion we must live with it. Also when quoting "facts" about the wetlands it should be clarified that just 1% of actual wetland would have been affected, the rest is non wetland bush.

Jobs wise - There is fair bit of repair work there, for a big group of landscapers and forresters, I guess if Barney resigns he could do the decent thing and start replating Marri trees. lol, just a pity it will take 300 years to fully recover.

In away this area will stand as a modern day natural symbol for of what the Barracks Arch symbolises, long history of people protests ( mainly at the ballot box, not the nutty stuff) to stop what they don't want!

Hundred year old trees can not be replaced I know, but at least we can try to plant similar type trees to try to undo some of the damage.
Make no mistake I in no way condone what the Barnett government did to the wet lands. The Labor government can try to patch it up.Though it will take at least a hundred years to repair.

Agree Anchor maybe the former Minister for the Environment Mr Albert Jacob could come down and support the revegetation project. He now has a bit more time on his hands :P

So your saying the multitude of court cases by the greens/Labor coalition had nothing to do with the project being delayed???????????

The libs would have loved to have started 2 years or more ago so it would have been finished by this election and would be old news, another piece of job creating infrastructure delivered to the tax payer.

I listened to some former pollies on the ABC yesterday one from each side (ex pollies are good to listen to as they have the inside knowledge but are no longer bound by the party machines) and both agreed that if labor had been in power in the last 8 years they would have done similar to the Libs re pushing ahead with big infrastructure programmes. The Libs knew that the mining money and more importantly jobs would dry up but they kept the projects coming so a big chunck of the 1000's of workers who lost their mining jobs could be employed on the projects down here. A very similar story to what Rudd/Gillard/Rudd did during the GFC with the school halls programme which kept a lot of people in jobs but had the similar situation of creating a large deficit. Both these Governments chose employment as the more important priority. If these WA projects had not gone ahead the unemployment rate would be significantly higher than it is now. Never the less the voters were persuaded by the massive union funded Labor campaign and chose a fresh face and a fresh government.

Went past, work has stopped, machinery was already removed and all fencing is being removed. MRD had it all planned out.

Labor played the right hand on this. Even if there is a multi million dollar cost to break the contracts, they can blame all that on Barnett pushing ahead so close to an election.
Time to re-plant i guess.
