I fully agree with what DD is saying even if how he's saying it is a little OTT. I was in Vietnam last year which is just about over-run by Chinese tourists certainly in the north anyway and they were just disgusting with the way they treat the locals and their sanitary habits. Sitting in restaurants and throwing food on the floor they didn't like, spitting and then just walking away with the local staff having to clean up their filth. I only travel to places these days where the Chinese presence is minimal. The Chinese Ambassador should be hauled up in front of our Foreign Minister for a please explain and expelled if he continues to make thinly veiled threats against Australia. It's time we looked for alternative markets for our goods and stopped our reliance on China.

BC the tourism thing is world wide and thats with maybe 100-150 million of them having passports, imagine what it will be like as their population continues to move out of subsistence existence and into the middle classes with money for travel and passports, will soon be near 300++ million. Was in NZ early last year and our experience was that it was like a travelling swarm, the locals we spoke to aren't happy as they they pretty much pre-pay their whole trip, travel on Chinese planes and buses with Chinese owned tour companies, stay at Chinese owned accom and eat at Chinese owned restaurants which means the local economy isn't getting anywhere near it's fair share. They push in everywhere they go, dont like queuing and are rude and arrogant.

Unfortunately they are the biggest consumers of raw materials such as iron ore so we need to be mindful of not cutting off our nose to spite our face. Would take decades to find new markets that match what we have with China, by then our economy would be seriously compromised, not what we need right now and China know they get a very good deal and a very reliable supply line form us, compared to other big ore exporters like Brazil. need to be firm but pragmatic when dealing with this mob, they have been wheeling and dealing for 1000's of years.

What the chinese are currently saying should not come as any surprise to anyone.
There's been rumblings from there for quite some time now.
But because they've been able to get away with a lot of things, our federal government have backed us all into a corner, so to speak.
And is going to take a lot to get out of the corner.
Chinas conduct towards australia and other countries has often been seen as poor, especially over the past 10 years or so.
People better believe the chinese are very upset our foriegn affairs minister came out and stated having an inquiry to examine the development of this epidemic and its development into a pandemic. How dare little australia say that!
Any type of inquiry would keep immense scrutiny and pressure on China.
They also took offence at australia's calls for a international disease inspectorate, given far reaching powers to go into any country.
They took further offence when australia announced this week that it had sent a frigate to join three US Navy ships in exercises near an area of the South China Sea where Malaysian, Vietnamese and Chinese claims clash. And where a Chinese survey ship reportedly is searching for undersea oil. And Marisa Payne publicly supported the deployment of HMAS Parramatta.
Then the Agriculture Minister, wants an independent scientific inquiry into wet markets for wild animals. Because chinese wet markets for wild animals have generated six pandemics in recent decades. It was time to do something about it instead of just waiting for the seventh.
Finally and at long last....... sounds like australia is starting to draw a line in the sand. Although should have been done long ago.

I see while all this has been going on the Chinese Navy has just launched its first Amphibious Helicopter Assault Ship.
