Besides Mitch Marsh, no real surprises by the selectors. More fence sitting then anything else, disappointing for Bamcroft and to a lesser extent Hardie. Warner was always going to get a gig regardless of recent red ball form and last Ashes tour. Harris was a monty after somehow securing a recent Aust centralized contract.  Really puts a load of pressure on Uzzie to perform.

The middle order picked themselves, with Renshaw as the backup for spots 1-6. Marsh is cat with 9 lives, hopefully the fella can deliver, hasn't played much of late, but when has done so, has actually delivered, perhaps maturity has helped. Inglis backs up Carey, the latter needs to hit the scoreboard more, Inglis hopefully gets a look in.

The NSW bowling cartel pick themselves, regardless of form or fitness, Boland really needs to play from day 1, but won't. Murphy is Lyon's back up, and definitely the future. Neser surely will come into calculation at some point, hopefully when Aust aren't 2/0 down. Sadly no left field selection in Johnson or Morris....apparently the latter is injured.

Oh well time will tell if the selectors are geniuses or fools.....your guess is as good as mine.

No real surprises in that squad to me Freeze other than Neser not in the 17.
Was hoping we might take a young developing quick like Spencer Johnson or Lance Morris on tour as we always used to do back in the 80s & 90s some with success like Terry Alderman, Geoff Lawson, Craig McDermott, Paul Reiffel, Jason Gillespie etc and some less memorable like Wayne Holdsworth, Greg Campbell, Dave Gilbert......
Im not surprised Bancroft was not chosen as despite leading the Shield run scorers he still has some technical deficiencies that the likes of Anderson, Broad, Robinson, Archer, Stokes, Woakes etc would expose in their conditions but having said that Harris is not a Test opener and I would have Renshaw ahead of him and Warner as Khawaja's opening partner.

three opportunities now to start fresh up top but they chose to take Harris & Warner and bring along Renshaw in case shit hits fan hard , Warner is 37/38 for god's sakes and Harris just can't score at Test level
Then a gilt-edged look see with another left armer no-one in the northern hemisphere has seen much of gets ignored and now because of appalling CA treatment Morris breaks down and is out
Had to take second keepers & all-rounders but taking Marsh is just a safe option selection , nothing for long term
Think it could be a very gloomy tour

I think Morris would have gone but he has a back injury which I assume he must have picked up in the shield final. Mitch Marsh is a puzzling selection as he has played very little red ball cricket in the last 12 months. Bancroft has some technical deficiencies for sure and I note that Broad skittled him in a county game the other day but I would back him to get more runs than Warner in English conditions, a low bar I know. Harris's drawback is his fielding and I agree that Khawaja and Renshaw would be the best opening option but it appears that Warner will be selected in at least the first two tests so that will have Messers Anderson and Broad salivating.
