what are others take on harry obrien ?

i found it very strange what he did. I have a very close connection with depression and i found what he did was very abnormal. not questioning his issues, but the one sticking point for me was when he started rattling off all these problems to the world, but the witnessing a murder story left me bewildered.

if like he says people will murder him if he reveals his information, why in gods name would you tell the seagulls (waiting media circus) ??? Up until that point I was absorbing his comments with respect. But harry tends to get on his soapbox and start babbling and repeating himself. I cannot imagine why anyone would reveal this if it were true, seriously.

people with depression and those seeking to find a solution do not shout it from the towers. no way . He obviously has issues that is not deniable. I think collingwood have a minefield here with harry now and any directive the club will demand to take with him will be faced with resistance. its easy to abuse your coach and staff, walk out on the club & then throw a brick in the fishbowl. taking with it any critique to your actions. there is more going on here than meets the eye.

yeah you have to feel for the guy, at the biggest club in australia, on about 400k a year, obviously doing it tough.

however Obrien is the one who has openly put it out there. therefore there is nothing wrong with a discussion about it.

I hope for Harry's sake that he is wallowing in self pity yolo. Rather that than the black dog on his back. I gotta say though, it's unusual for someone to come out so openly, so quickly. And the part about the murder he witnessed - would he now expect a call from the police for info? I won't say much more, as I do have sympathy for him, but something doesn't seem to gel.

Exactly 58, it was very unusual for someone to come out so strongly on the topic. But there have been a few afl players who have later advised of their battles with depression and their only regrets where not speaking up about it sooner. So I guess he is just taking advice from these people who have experienced it to be able to better deal with it.

Hopefully it is not the black dog. But still, he has always been a bit of a nutter.
