Thought the umpires in Fremantle vs Carlton match were of a very poor standard. Far too many just dropping the ball or tossing it away. Freo were robbed more times than Carlton. Most glaring was a juggled mark up forward when NO ONE else touched it. Last 20 seconds was just a joke. Carlton's Gibbons should have taken the kick & further from the goals. Newnes was a long way from the action but a better kick.. PISS WEAK umpiring.

Well you are right - Gibbons was the nearest player when the ball sailed out of play. Don''t forget that Ploughmans kick out of play came from Taberner being penalised for a deliberate out of bounds. Definitely a helping hand from the umpires but credit to Carlton because they kept coming. Only the Dockers though, so should not get too excited - but it does provide a glimmer of hope for the Blues who have winnable games against the Suns, Crows, Swans and Pies coming up.

Sounds like your WAFL team Freezin except other way around. Goalless first 2 or 3 quarters then come home with a wet sail and pile on 2 or 3 goals in junk time in the 4th qtr.

Yes they were abysmal umpiring decisions but if a team can only score 36 points in 4 quarters of football they probably deserve to be beaten anyway. Great to see some reasonable scores by some winning teams in this weeks games, Bulldogs 111, Melbourne 100, Geelong 91 and Eagles 81. The excitement in Aussie rules whether it be AFL or WAFL is generated by the high scoring. If I want to watch a low scoring stalemate I can turn on the soccer

mikeh: absolutely correct; teams might be trying to win, but they are not necessarily trying to score. It is a half arsed version of soccer without the goal keeper and off-side rule, at best; a complete change in the mentality of the sport

Carlton would have won the game a quarter earlier had they kicked straight

I guess your AFL team and my WAFL team are similar then DD...both are shite.....and there is me thinking life is tough being an EF and WBD fan....then I think of you DD watching Perth play for the last 40 odd years and following Freo for the last 25 odd years for absolute jack shite.........2.4 over 3/4 of footy and it's the umpires fault Freo lost..typical Freo fans....unlike you to be a disrespectful wanker to the umps DD.

DD said nothing about the umps Freezin.
I didn’t think they were abysmal decisions. I thought the deliberate against Taberner was fair enough, but that’s a rule they are shockingly inconsistent with. The decision against Brayshaw was fair I thought. Accidental yes but that doesn’t matter. There was enough force in the front on contact to pay a free, they’d usually pay that I reckon. And it was after he’d disposed of it so that means the downfield call is correct. Clearly it shouldn’t have been Newnes taking the kick though. And what a kick.

Very true TOO, thanks for the heads up, but then again, after his whinge about the umps in the Perth/WP game for lesser crimes, I really can't believe DD is the only Freo fan alive who isn't blaming the umps for that Freo loss....but I have been wrong before...apologies DD for thinking you were a disrespectful wanker to the umps..it was wrong of me to jump to conclusions about that....about the umps I mean

I thought that the umps missed quite a few head highs and holding the ball/incorrect disposals In the WCE Hawks game yesterday, but it went both ways. I think most people can live with that. It was a crappy day weather wise so they kept the ball moving. Seems to me that most people just want consistency and thats what we got.
As for the Freo game, can’t see a lot of point dissecting that. There’s been plenty of controversial finishes that irked me and 10, 20, 50 years later, the scores stay the same.
