DD wrote: I can't believe how anyone can defend that tackle. I admire the way Nic Nat plays his footy and I have no problem with the vigor he applies but he clearly launched himself into the tackle from behind on a player nearly half his size and made no attempt to drag him down or turn him around. This technical bs about whether he had both arms pinned or not is irrelevant.

Applying a tackle like that could have dire consequences and Natanui would have trouble living with himself if that player suffered a career ending injury, or worse an injury that is life changing. The AFL has made the right call and Nic Nat needs to make a slight adjustment to his tackling technique.

DD did they make the right call when a player bumped another player and the player bumped was knocked out and there was no sanction for the player who bumped?

The problem now is that The AFL have continually adjusted and changed rules/interpretations to the point where you need a university degree to follow whats going on. I sit at games, hear the whistle and think, whats going to happen here? I have no idea now what the rules are. Incorrect disposal, changes by the minute. Just make it simple like it used to be, if you are tackled and have the ball its holding the ball, no exceptions. Fifty metre penalties, get rid of them they are too severe for very minor issues. It's becoming a very technical game to watch and I thought Naitanuis tackle was ok, wasn't in the back, didn't pin the arms not much more he could have done.

I disagree JB, Nic knew when he launched himself at the player he was going to carry him forward and into the ground with force.

S42 not sure what bump you are referring to except to say we all know there is incidental contact in footy that is sometimes unfortunate but it comes down to duty of care and when you tackle a player you are often disabling a person when you wrap your arms around him and therefore have a certain duty of care.

there are high tackles, push in the backs, spoils that hit the head in games of footy every weekend.
it was a poor tackle but its a free kick and that's it, you cant suspend someone cos they are bigger than than their opponent..he didnt pick the guy up and drive him into the ground.
free kick, move on.

I just saw the tackle on-line for the first time and nothing in it for mine. the PA guy's arms were free and he could have let go of the ball and protected himself. I think NicNat will get off.

The act looked very reckless to me. A bit like his knee into Sandy last year
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

an aussie rules player who is quick, strong and powerful is allowed to tackle a player with as much force as he wants.
it is up to the umpire to determine whether its a fair tackle - it wasnt so it was in the back.
the injury was a part of the tackle, nota separate action so how can you be suspended ?

anchorman wrote: The tackle was far beyond careless. It was a brutal attack on the man.He meant harm in my eyes. And I repeat , in my eye.
His tackle a few weeks back against a Geelong player was worse than this on.He launched himself at the player with the ball. lifted him in his momentum and drove him into the ground.
Very reckless on both" tackles"!!!
Imagine the screaming that would be coming from the Toasters if a ruckman from another side did that to Gaff or Rioli. They would be squealing like stuck pigs.
TFAF, the knee to Sandi I could handle, because he was flying for the mark, which from memory her took. This is totally different.Other raisingother incidents are missing the point. They werew wrong, but so so different to this alleged tackle.

He has been pushing the envelope A/M but i think on previous occasions Nic Nat has manged to roll or turn the player around before hitting the deck face first and that's why he hasn't been cited previously but on this occasion he didn't appear to make any attempt to do that. IMO

Well the verdict is in - it will be interesting to see where this precedent takes football in the following months.

Naitanui says he won't be changing his game - a sentiment I completely agree with.
