This title was a book published in the mid 1980s, does anybody own it? If so, would you be civilised enough to list the forty players in a post on this site? I would be most grateful indeed. It was a book I had as a kid, one which I regret giving away.

Judges were Sir Ross Hutchinson, Jim Davies, Jack Sweet and Frank Sparrow

Others the book stated just missed out were Peter Bosustow, Peter Spencer, Kevin Clune, Phil Kelly, Laurie Kettlewell, Gary Buckenara, Graham Melrose and Jim Conway

A list bound to raise passions, disagreements and arguments.

Let me start with a couple of easy, though parochial ones:

- Laurie Kettlewell in the also-rans, while Doug Green and Derek Chadwick make it;

- Ocker at #36.

BUT I would agree that there is a bias in favour of defenders and the mid field, particularly wing men, which is a wee bit dodgy. To this day, I would not rate Mckenna as one of the Eagles' best because he played on a hbf.

not sure there was an actual set in stone order to the list
few very unlucky damned good players missed out

geez could you fit Farmer , Michael & Moss in maybe one of them on the Pine or Michael as a resting ruck rover he was that good
with Rioli in the guts , Peake ruck-roving and Marsh crumbing
farking Viccos would shit themselves to death

2 Subi players in the list of 40 just shows how shite Subi were in that period, although kettlewell should be in, one of the most versitile players ever to pull on a boot

SS -- your right about that, had we beaten EP in the 1959 gf Laurie K may have been squeezed on to the list.
