Actually 1981 wasn't a great year for Perth - Claremont broke Swans' record with a score of 39.20 - 254 against the poor old Demons at Claremont Oval

Olsen was involved in a complicated swap that involved Melrose coming to Swans and Mark going to EF...okay, a few years later Melrose led us to our first premiership in 19 years, but it was bizarre by Swans to let go of a forward who was runner-up in the goal kicking in 1979 (and who was leading into the last round). I wished he'd stayed; he was the most mercurial footballer I ever saw, and I would have him over Beasley any day. And on the topic of that game in 1979; Craig Hoyer kicked Swans' 40th to the Bassendean end of the ground, and despite Olsen's 13, Alan East gave Buckanara BOG in Monday's West!

Two things on that mate - Craig Hoyer's career was destroyed by that Vicco trash Hawthorn he did his knee playing on their shitheap grounds & was never the same player afterwards even though he did come back to play with Swans
I think Mark Olsen snagged 13 against us at Fremantle Oval one afternoon too - my uncle whinged about that for years haha
(Olly hardly ever missed & had a very good pair of hands in a contested mark duel)
Melly was a great player for Swans - kicked 9 in a Prelim against EP from memory didn't he?

He certainly did mate in 1980 just a pity he couldnt follow that up against your boys a week later in the GF where the great Mr Rioli (R.I.P) run amok.

Unfortunately you can blame Neesham for that mate - that dirty attempt to iron out Maurice at Basso in a half forward pack at the town end stirred the little wizard & every time he played Swans he came up with 30% extra
Mind you the Seagull ended up flat on his arse that day I have to say haha

True about Hoyer Southerner - never the same footballer after his stint in Victoria. Nice bloke too, as was his younger brother Eddie. Olsen never kicked 13 against South, but your uncle might be relating a game where Olsen kicked 11, including a remarkable 9 by half time. Your mob still won, by the way. There were some great games at Fremantle between SF and SD in those days.

And just to square up the ledger a bit big Ronny Boucher flattened Noel Carter a couple of years later & that was a big hit too reckon the McDonald stand groaned a bit that day Beas' mate hahaha
Ah those were terrific days halcyon days - beat the pisser out of this modern Victorian shit

There were indeed some huge clashes between the two clubs - a tremendous respect still exists between the players & officials mostly due to the John Cooper / John Todd frienships with South officials , and of course JT's history with South Fremantle
Mal Brown had a huge respect for JT that's fact - and I believe Browny was the only coach that Toddy feared to his toenails from what I've been told , JT always expected the unexpected & then expected even more of it

In Round 7 and then again in Round 21 both at Fremantle Oval in 1978 Mark Olsen kicked 11 & 10 goals against the Bulldogs.
