Was surprised and a touch disappointed the pre season scores were not in the paper. Would have been a chance for some promotion

Circulation of the West is in decline anyway, I haven't bought a copy in ages.

Same here Baz, it's about the same thickness as a local rag these days. Only time I see people reading The West Australian is when I go for a piss in McDonald's. What does it cost nowadays, a $1.50?

I just came across this pretty good write up on the SANFL on the ABC while trawling through Google News. Their season kicks off this weekend. I wonder if the ABC will give us such a thorough coverage?

Yes a good article DD.
What it says to me is the SANFL clubs are not happy with the mid season draft and other things the AFL have brought in. They want any SANFL players drafted mid season to be able to play for their SANFL club if not selected for AFL duty. I can't imagine any of our Club presidents or CEO's suggesting that. They are all yes men to the AFL, too scared to get on the wrong side of Nisbett and Co.

No jtt, it's not just you. Have noticed the same too. The Wafl has been in decline since the 2014 season. Can't say anymore than what has been said already. Does make one wonder how much longer it will hang on for?

The bloke has got more money than a bull can shit. He's prepared to pay overs to get rid of competition. I was blown away when I was told he paid something like 35 million for the Quokka. I reckon he did his doh because who advertises or buys a West or Sunday Times these days or even the Quokka? Everyone uses Gumtree or Facebook marketplace.

Those days are long gone when we had to ring before the deadline to get our line ad in the ST or The Quokka. Now can place an ad with 5 photos anytime you like. If you were looking for a second hand car, bar fridge VHS recorder etc, you had to get the ST on a Saturday night and get in first before the vultures and hyenas arrived. Lol those were the days. Good fun actually. I miss those days, not the advertising though what a bloody rip off that was and wanted to charge a small fortune for an attention getter.

Yep , its a total dud, I have bought it once this year, complete rubbish, its just a spin off of Perth Now which is a spin off now of the The West site which have the same stories...

They announced another big round of job cuts this week at both papers, as I said when he bought it, it wont be long before the Weekend West ( also crap now - used to be good) and Sunday Times combine as one paper. I don't buy either , the Weekend Oz is all I get on the weekend now, has a heap of reading in it for the weekend.

There wont be much more increase in WAFL Press bar the eagles and dockers reserves guys.

I had no idea that the pisser at McDonalds was where the 'West' readers were hanging out these days but there you go. Suppose they had to end up somewhere.

Im not qualified in this field so take my comment/rant any way you like but the waining interest in the wafl would force the west to report bigger and more newsworthy stories. Dont overlook the fact that the media have pretty much all moved into electronic platforms. I doubt that many of the wafl stalwarts would know where to find current news (tongue in cheek). Wafl had a chance to save them selves in the early 2000's but crapped allover the district model because they had no vision or inclination to mature with the times. Unfortunately i think it is far too late and we will see the twitches and spasms of a dying carcass unless whoever is responsible for the game in WA shows courage and makes tough calls on what wa footy has got to look like
