this is a silly thread 42....umpires do currently take every precaution..case in point Rohde from West Perth was taken out by friendly fire on Saturday and lay on the ground motionless. Play went on until the medical staff attended and made it clear a stretcher was required. The umps stopped play immediately as they should. On other occasions I've seen hurt players on the ground whereby play has continued in close proximity and the umpire has stopped the game until said player was taken out of the area. What more do you want? I'm not going to give this rubbish any more oxygen.

Is there anything the SDFC three amigos on here don't moan about, we can add this rubbish to the diversion tactics that litter this site on anything but SDFCs complete uncompetitive status this year.

No worries Mr Positive we will keep that in mind when posting in future.
Quality, positive stuff like Western derby, dead as a maggot etc must be the criteria from here on in!

42 if the umps stopped the game inquiring about injuries or the status quo of an injury most of SD games wouldnt end till 10pm at night mate. ;) ......you guys have certainly been soft tissue/ligament raped on the injury front this year that is for sure..... perhaps the WAFL needs to have an extra ump on the ground for when SD play......by the way will Logue be fit to play for SD colts team in the finals?...or will the WAFL need to have an extra ump on duty to "special" the young man during the warm up, to ensure there isnt a repeat of what happened a few weeks back when young Griffen played colts for SD v EF :P

BC did you actually witness the incident on Saturday 42 has based this topic on? Actually we already know the answer to that question!

obviously I didn't as I was on the hill at Kingsway in the pouring rain watching Subi..but to paint umpires and the umpiring fraternity in general as not having any due regard to player welfare which is the thrust of 42's original post is absurd.... quote "...How can a set of umpires and the umpiring fraternity suggest that one of their primary considerations is the welfare of the players when they continue to ignore a seriously injured player and continue to allow play to continue?.." unquote.

DH with a crowd of only 1108 it appears no one was at Basso to witness this incident.

Grassy wrote: I suspect the Clubs need to sort themselves out on stretchers as well.

Trainers may have the Inclination to take the stretchers out Everytime ,but I don't think they are taken out as much as they should be.Now why would that be?

Grassy and others, Most trainers running water a not in fact trainers they are usually players who are not playing and that is their role on match day.

AT EP since I have been there with the Colts {not interested in the league as they have their own processes} (and before the alignment for the trolls) we have made sure that we have graduate students , Physio, Human Movement and Sports Science, come to the club as part of their prac commitment. They must have a first aid cert and we then teach them tapping etc as part our needs and they do the SMA level one course.

Back to the issue, if you have players running water then you are asking for issues, we tell our trainers that if they are in a way concerned, before the head trainer or physio arrive at the scene, to tell the umpire and ask for play to be stopped. This causes issues with coaches (another group who often see results above welfare) and sometimes but it has happened the other teams players.

The fact remains that unless clubs have folk who are appropriately trained then there will be issues. We cannot rely on an Umpire to make the decision to halt play without some reference point and that should be the trainer.

As an example of the stupidity, in the weekends game against Peel, a player went down in the far(Vincent st pocket) and the Peel water boys did nothing and it took a good 2 minutes before the Peel Physio person got there, it was our trainers who were first on the scene (something I impress upon them no matter who the player is if there is an issue see to it).
We live in a time where intelligent people are being silenced so stupid people won't be offended

jesus grassy...a game would go for 2 weeks if you took a stretcher on every time a player hit the deck. how often are stretchers actually used?...once every 3 or 4 games at most? bugger me...using your rules it would start to look like a pommy soccer match with a never ending shuffle of stretchers on and off the ground.

Freezin, BC and any other person who is singularly lacking in understanding the gist of what I have posted I will try again. There are three umpires (field) on the ground. I have said many, many times that if the umpires first priority is a duty of care then it is incumbent on one of the umpires to go to the people atten ding the player and ask whether play should be stopped immediately to ensure the safety of the player in question. AT NO TIME DID I SAY THE UMPIRE SHOULD DIAGNOSE THE EXTENT OF THE PLAYERS INJURY. For those who think that this is a diversionary tactic or it was because it was a Swans' player then you are most assuredly wrong. Put quite simply would I prefer to see a match halted or a player permanently handicapped; I think the answer is self-evident.

As for your disgusting and frankly pathetic attempt at humour freezin I am well and truly over it.
