La Hincha wrote: The only CHF's I can think of from my club since I followed were George Young, Ken Marshall, Ron Bayens, Warren Dean, Geoff Clark and David Mapleston. Pretty good players but not all time greats I guess.

On his day George Young was damn close

The other CHF we both forgot was sandover medal winner and '04 premiership player Richard Ambrose.

You could say Josh Kennedy may well finish his career as the greatest chf to come out of our state and possibly push Mal Brown out of that spot in the all time WA 22.
The ironic thing is that if stephen Michael was a modern day footballer he would be one of the all time great chf's

Brendon Goddard most overated for me Anchor....I stood next to Josh Kennedy once at the local shops. By sheer size alone I wouldn't call him the most overated but is definitely a player who still has a lot to prove before he can be regarded as a great of the game. Definitely not in the same class as Pav, Buddy, Reiwoldt, Roughhead and even Hawkins who I'll include after he put on a show on GF day which in my eyes is worthy of immortality in football circles.Aside from Hawkins all these forwards have had the ability to play good footy thru CHF and a variety of roles further up the ground which I've never seen from Kennedy. Maybe this is the WA curse for the CHF position which hasn't applied to Pav being that he is SA born.

Great topic Ark. I've sat on it for a couple of days and still can't come up with a WAFL player I would call dominant at CHF in my time. Did Clinton Browning have a few solid seasons in that position for EF during his time? Ken Marshall at Subi perhaps or did he always play deep there? I didn't see Gary Sidebottom until 85 where he played deep and can not think of another candidate from the club I follow that one would call CHF that player's best position. Fascinating reality of WAFL footy history

Super was a ruck-rover / centreman at Richmond & Doro was a backman at Carlton while initially a CHF at South (later a fullforward)

Murray Couper was a Full Forward for the Dees mainly (later at EP & EF)

Just thinking a wee bit more, I think Sumich played the position in his early days at South; two more whom played CHF for Subi were Langdon and Georgiadies -- excuse my spelling, please.
