I've made some slight adjustments to starting 18 - swapped Jackson and P.Krakouer and added a few more names to 'the squad'
Jury still out on Malarkey - thanks Chaddy22 and Kemp and Peake if have aboriginal heritage would be in for sure - but for who?
This was a difficult task, as is naming any 'best' side..I think I had about 15 definites and about 20 other 'should be's' and 20 other 'could be's' .
Could definitely pick multiple teams here, I actually had multiple goes at this and had at some stage MIchael Mitchell in, Dale Kickett and J.Farmer amongst others staring 18 vs bench was irrelevant for me I was just trying to fit 22 in as it was it blew out to 24 - I could've easily had a first 30 - these days your on the ground within 5 minutes off the bench with all these rotations anyway. Starting positions were tricky as I mentioned TI at CHF and P.Krakouer HFF - both Krakouers had to be in for me - it was either none or both -bit like a package. Syd Jackson I never saw play, only read about therefore I put Rioli in centre and had Syd coming off the bench.
I tried basing it on what impact they had in the WAFL with weighting on WAFL captains, state games, premierships, sandovers and other medals. I did have a personal bias in a few selections on players I enjoyed watching and didn't include there, whilst trying to add some names from before my time.
The take out I get from trying to put this team together is how lucky we have been to have so many superstars playing in our great comp, whether they have stayed in the WAFL or gone on to the V/AFL - and thanks to people like Jimmy Melbourne, the Haywards and Syd Jackson and those that accepted, encouraged and included them back in the day and coaches like Browny and Toddy and others before and since, we get to enjoy more and more ingenious players play our great game and we can sit down and struggle to 'only' find 22 to fit into a team.
