Bazza, Bazza, Bazza how about a reality check or at least some balance in your unconditional praise of the 7 coverage. Firstly, the ABC broadcast ALL ROUNDS; 7 doesn't. Secondly, the time was set, as a rule at 2.00 on a Saturday; not 11.40 am on a Sunday morning, 12.10 pm on a Sunday morning or quarter past who knows when on another day. Thirdly, because it was on a Saturday afternoon it was in direct opposition generally to an AFL game; therefore, it is not reasonable to compare the ratings of 2 versus 7. Fourthly, by any metric the supposed greater exposure by 7 has most certainly not resulted in increased attendances at either home and away games or the finals. Fifthly, from my limited viewing of 7's coverage (due primarily because I am at Swans' games) it is all about who has, who is or who will be playing AFL. Sixthly, it is a concern if it is true that Andrew Embley wasn't able to get the years correct of our premierships in the 60s. It demonstrates a singular lack of knowledge of the club he played WAFL footy; albeit he may have an excuse because he may have played more games for Claremont during the INFAMOUS host club alignment version 1.

Swan obviously it is a pity not all games are covered, that is something they could improve on.

But I cannot see how you can say more people viewing and higher ratings cannot be a better thing , the start times do help with this as they feed into AFL coverage, this gives the much broader football viewer exposure to WAFL, this was not happening on ABC coverage which was limited to ever shrinking Wafl clique.

What Ch 7 do far better is the marketing and social media exposure, the Saturday night news summary is a huge bonus in itself , Abc news had dropped this years ago, Ch 7 is by far the highest ratings news in the state. It has to be good.

Something that is hugely valuable to actually CLUBS is the marketing value for their sponsors that ABC could never give, I was at EF oval and ATOM got massive coverage ABC could not even name the ground sponsor in its coverage, what a joke.

This all helps encourage sponsors to stay on board and be the life blood of a club.

As for embley , well that's probably a sad indictment on sdfc for not instilling more club history and culture on your players, sffc has a focus on this.

Swan it was the ABCs choice to drop local footy nation wide, VFL, WAFL and SANFL not channel 7's , they wont be back - so stop living in the past.

I'm all for giving other channels a crack once this deal is done but for now lets see the positives.

Ch nine failed to deliver a 1 mill sponsor when they had a the chance.

Write to them if you don't believe me and check the time lines.

Write to the ABC and see what they could do it for if your so concerned about them dipping out as well, maybe with your influence you might be able to coax Ch 2 back into some sports coverage bar womens soccer.

Write to the Abc and Ch 9 get your facts right, get them to commit to it in writing not rumours from the local deli.

If no sponsor can be found to fill the cost gap the league has to fill the gap, btw they also PAID the Abc for coverage , odd really considering it was a tax payer funded organistion.
