What's the answer? The seasons are going to continue to change, so this will happen more and more in the coming years. Maybe the time will come when the sporting bodies may need to meet up and discuss season timing. They'll end up killing someone one day.

Duty of Care is the key words.. But the WAFL/WAFC doesnt care. Remember a scratchy that was to be played last year in 38-40 heat and Bill Monaghan said no way was he going to play in that heat as concerned for their welfare. I think it was against Swans? WAFL told the WPFC play or be fined big time as it is a gazetted game.
So we played albeit with a lot of reserves and a huge amount of interchanges.
From memory it was a week out from the regular season starting as well..So Bill worried about how it would effect the players.
OK during the regular season not much can be done except to start the games a bit later as pretty sure they did at a couple. Early in the season when hot a lot of Night games should be played if the club has Decent lights.
Winter back to Day games all the way. Looking at last year that appears to be sinking in. There slow learners down at WAFL HQ but we all know that :(

SD ruckman Greg Frost in 1977 or 78. During a pre season run, passed out in bushland in John Forrest National Park when Herb Elliott was Swans phys ed man.
In the AFL, Matthew Pavlich passed out on his first training run with the Dockers. Dean Cox on his first traning run at West Coast spewed and reportedly cried as well.

Brendan Fewster apparently collapsed due to exhaustion in the Floreat beach carpark. Nothing to do with training though.

Its nothing new really for players to spew up and collapse at training, happened regularly in Souths pre season of 92/93 under Steve Smith that i undertook, i had to piggy back Mark Bayliss up one of the fairways on Freo golf course one night and that was a killer!

I can recall our first preseason session under Alan Joyce in 1971 at Port Peron. By the end most players were crawling to complete the last circuit. He then singled out those who hadn't completed the session to his satisfaction and took them on another set of exercises. Most vomited. Our next few sessions involved running around the Fremantle Golf course. Heart Attack hill was a favourite for him to put us through his exercises. It nearly lived up to its name! It was the toughest preseason I participated in 12 seasons of senior football.
