HI Jimmy,

Thanks for taking the time to read and reply.

Not quite sure what you mean that they would get a financial advantage. If anything they could lose out in bar/food sales because it could be these games have less attendance if they are on tv. Take a look through the list and it is just manipulating the fixture so that their home games are shown. No extra advantage in terms of extra home games or dollars coming in (with the exception of a one game trial of East Freo at Freo). It is simply about making it more cost effective by using the broadcasting capabilities of Fremantle, Rushton and Leederville.

If you look through the list every one of the G7 clubs has five televised games with Peel with 7 and East Perth with 8. I think this is a fair breakdown considering what 7 will want and what the WAFL should want.

Sorry, I should have used ground signage/sponsorship as an example. Home ground will have their sponsors signage giving them a financial advantage as it's giving them free commercial exposure, whilst the other clubs miss out, making it harder to attract sponsors. Sponsors want exposure for the money they invest.

Fair point,

This may be the one downside for other WAFL clubs and grounds. Having not seen a financial breakdown though, I could not imagine this would equate to a large loss in revenue that could not be made up by a smart club playing off the fact that the league they play in has a commercial arrangement with network tv in place.

All about your marketing and how you use the deal to your advantage as a G7 club.

If the visiting club was allowed to place their sponsors signs around the ground on match day only that would appease clubs.

why would clubs all pay an equal amount - 50k when some clubs get more home games which = exposure for sponsors than others ?
should be done on a pro-rata basis, East Perth or Peel get more home games then they pay more.

MO how about this for a better suggestion: since the WAFC is making decisions purely for the benefit of the two WA domiciled AFL clubs, the two WA domiciled AFL clubs should pay the entire cost of broadcasting the WAFL for as long as the host club alignment is in place.

Great idea swan42 but as you and I both know the last thing the AFL teams want is for people to start watching the WAFL comp again and risk losing their already diminishing audiences.

Please find the latest episode of the Mike to Cam Show: WAFL Waffle.

The boys discuss the latest player movement, have a look at the second part of a three part plan to build a premiership list and give some inside word on a WAFL deal being signed off.

Hope you enjoy the listen.

As part of the "Mike to Cam's WAFL Waffle" off-season we are going to detail 15 key points (one each week) that make up what we believe to be the key areas for ongoing growth of WAFL clubs and how a WAFL club can become a winner both on and off field. As with any sport and business, clubs are only limited by their lack of thinking and willingness to innovate. Mike to Cam believe in the current market the WAFL is crying out for innovation.

Key Concept Three - List Development Recruiting
* Understanding should be that moulding a team with recruits takes 12-24 months
* Recruiting works best when complimented with local talent
* Key areas need to be identified within premiership framework for high point recruits
* Analysis of competition to uncover best value from high value recruits
* Value can be found on other teams list for 1 - 5 point players

Ideas to Harness List Development
* Recruit talls, best success has come from recruiting dominant ruck or tall players
* Value can be found in players from other zones out of system
* Relationships kept with AFL listed players for returning players
* Using former players as word of mouth to encourage growth at the club
* Using current recruits to bring across additional talent
* Targets should be established at least 12 months out to build relationships

Key Concepts
1. Social Awareness
2. List Development Local Talent
3. List Development Recruiting
