Claremont is a tricky one for me. Neither the WAFC nor the Claremont Council are funding that project, it is actually the Australian Sports Federation who have approved the funding.

Long term, it is difficult to identify where that strategic plan may be headed. It is only the rooms and front building that is being revamped, not the ground nor the surrounds at this stage.

Even about 3 years ago, word around Claremont would be the area would be developed as a multi purpose facility with a key interest holder being WA Athletics. If there has been behind the scenes talks with the WAFC for the long term aspects of this ground, then perhaps one could assume a deal has been struck in regard to the short term future as to Claremont's residency (Badging, initial control etc).

Yes, couldn't have emphasised it any better!

The Wafl mergers will give 4 teams in the competition. Another train of thought will be how does that reflect upon supporters and members. For instance, SD & WP merging would have high opposition by club members and Wafl fans I would have thought. Reducing the number of teams to 4 will mean an excess of players moving on elsewhere. It's true the four remaining teams will be stronger. I wish it were possible to be certain of a more vibrant competition but not if the fans and some members turn away.

Wrong. The entire surrounding of Claremont oval is being developed into housing. It is supposed to ensure our long term survival as a club financially somehow

Yes that is my understanding of Claremont Oval too.
The football club facilities will be rebuilt along with new housing and commercial facilities surrounding the oval. And will redevelop the 9½ ha site around Claremont Oval into a vibrant community hub. Claremont Oval would continue to be used as a sporting facility, set amidst a range of medium to high density housing options. Apparently the redevelopment, led by Landcorp in partnership with the Town of Claremont, will include about 500 residential apartments and a small number of townhouse lots, 4000sqm of retail floor space and 7000sqm of commercial floor space. The new facility will include commercial opportunities to further enhance the area.
The premier has indicated depending on the success of the project, he expected it would be a benchmark for similar redevelopments. And has tipped would be the first of many similar projects at WAFL clubs.

Premier Barnett also stated recently that Subiaco Oval is likely to be demolished to make way for apartments. He said that the land is simply to valuable not to be redeveloped.

Also, all of the officials I have spoken to at Subiaco are rapt with Leederville Oval. Subi put 600,000 dollars into it and aren't likely to want to move anytime soon. Not to mention that since moving to Leederville they have won 5 premierships and played in 7 grand finals.

The ground has been a lucky charm for us from day 1 of the move.

Agree LH.

We have invested in Leederville now and everything about it is better for us supporters of the club there. Is more family friendly also which is what the WAFL is all about these days, and parking, atmosphere etc is far superior than it was at Subi oval.

Understand the responses and many do make sense, but I suppose I can only go on what I am told. Though, some may believe I am "having a lend" but there were many arguments to this plan that I also raised in conversation with this person.

Claremont Oval
"Wrong, the whole surrounding". But you are talking here about the suburban surrounding of the ground! Not the spectator surrounds of the oval. Yes, Claremont is spending a lot of money on what is happening around the physical ground. But this in no way will guarantee the future of the Claremont Football Club at that physical location. In short, this ground is an asset to Claremont the suburb, not Claremont the WAFL Club. You have no idea what has been discussed behind closed doors regarding the future of this ground and when CoC might get it back!

Leederville Oval
Jjim - Understand where you are coming from, but in reality Medibank is a terrible ground. The WAFC can not see a long term future for this location.

Subiaco!!!
Subi Oval is a political nightmare. Regardless of what Barnett may say or when it might happen (and he won't) there is no way they will completely knock down Paterson's Stadium in one hit. Considering how much money has been spent on it. The cost of knocking it down will be a massive consideration of caution compared to the real estate pricing that may or may not be available. Subi will be around for at least another 15 years, though it will be "broken down" over time. Stands will be removed and infrastructure will be taken away. Wings of the ground will be turned into business units. Hey the way the WAFC run things, maybe it will look like a WAFL ground in about 20 years!!!
